Description:
The RadiologicTechnologist I is responsible for obtaining diagnostic radiographicexaminations at a technical level not requiring constantsupervision. This role involves essential generic job functions,including producing diagnostic radiographic examinations bypositioning patients, providing immobilization devices, andselecting proper technical factors based on individual patientneeds. The technologist restricts the radiation beam through coneand collimating devices to ensure non-exposure of radiation tounaffected parts of the patient. Portable x-ray examinations areperformed in patient rooms, operating rooms, and emergency rooms.
Operational procedures include identifying patients’ films withnames and x-ray numbers and correctly marking films according tothe side of the patient taken. Exposed x-ray films are developed byavailable processing methods. Patient requisitions are completedwith technologist initials, date, number, and size of film. Thetechnologist maintains an orderly x-ray room as directed by thedepartment head. Preparation of radiopaque contrast media andassistance to physicians in administering contrast mixtures topatients are part of the responsibilities. Administrative dutiesrelated to scheduling appointments, patient instructions, filmfiling, and maintenance of records are required. Services and/orassistance are rendered to all patients, depending on theirindividual needs and abilities in moving, turning, and getting onand off the x-ray tables. Lifting a minimum of 5 lbs., pushing andpulling a minimum of 10 lbs., and standing for a minimum of 6 hoursa day are physical demands of the job. Identifying the needs of thepatient population served and modifying and delivering carespecific to those needs is essential. This process includes clearcommunication with the patient and/or primary caregivers at theirlevel of understanding. Adherence to organizational competencystandards is required.
