Travel An MRI Technologist (Magnetic ResonanceImaging Technologist) operates MRI machines to create detailedimages of the inside of a patient’s body, which are used by doctorsto diagnose and treat various medical conditions. MRI Technologistsare responsible for positioning patients correctly, ensuring safetyprotocols are followed, maintaining equipment, and providinghigh-quality images while delivering compassionate care. /n/n
KeyResponsibilities:
/n /n 1. /n
Pre-Procedure Preparation:
/n /n
- Review the patient’s medical history, doctor’s orders, and anyprevious imaging studies to ensure the appropriate MRI procedure isconducted. /n
- Explain the MRI procedure to the patient,addressing any questions or concerns to reduce anxiety. /n
- Ensurethat all necessary documentation, including informed consent formsand patient information, is completed before the procedure. /n
- Verify patient identity and screening criteria to ensure safety,such as checking for implanted devices, allergies to contrastagents, or pregnancy. /n
- Prepare and position the MRI room byensuring the machine and equipment are ready for the procedure.

Conducting MRI Scans:
/n /n
- Operate the MRI machine,adjusting settings (e.g., magnetic field, radiofrequency pulse) toobtain high-quality images as prescribed by the physician. /n
- Position patients on the MRI table, ensuring they are comfortableand aligned to capture the correct images while adhering to safetystandards. /n
- Administer contrast agents as prescribed by thephysician to enhance image clarity, ensuring the patient ismonitored for adverse reactions. /n
- Ensure the patient remainsstill during the scan to obtain clear, high-resolution images. /n
- Monitor the MRI process to confirm quality imaging, makingadjustments to the settings or positioning as necessary.

Patient Safety and Comfort:

- Ensure patient safetyduring the MRI procedure, especially concerning the strong magneticfields, by verifying that no ferrous or metal objects are presenton the patient. /n
- Keep patients informed during the scan,providing reassurance and instructions as needed to ensure comfort./n
- Monitor the patient’s condition, including vital signs, duringthe scan to detect any potential issues or discomfort. /n
- Ensureproper patient positioning to avoid injuries or discomfort duringthe imaging process.

Post-Procedure Care:
/n /n
- Assist the patient off the MRI table after the procedure and ensurethey are stable and comfortable. /n
- Provide post-procedureinstructions, including the use of any follow-up treatments, carefor injection sites (if contrast agents were used), and any otheraftercare instructions. /n
- Ensure that any required post-scanimaging or additional scans are scheduled as necessary. /n
- Address any immediate concerns or side effects the patient mayexperience, especially if contrast agents were administered.

Maintenance and Equipment Care:

- Ensure that theMRI machine is regularly calibrated and functioning correctly,performing basic maintenance and troubleshooting when necessary. /n
- Clean and disinfect the MRI suite and equipment between patientsto adhere to infection control protocols. /n
- Monitor equipmentperformance, identify malfunctions or issues, and alert theappropriate staff for repairs or servicing.

Medical Team:

- Communicate effectivelywith physicians, radiologists, and other medical staff to ensurethe correct images are obtained and the patient’s needs are met. /n
- Work with other healthcare professionals to review images, assessthe need for follow-up scans, and discuss patient conditions. /n
- Collaborate with radiologists to ensure the final images meetdiagnostic standards and are transmitted accurately to theappropriate physician for review.

Documentation andRecord-Keeping:

- Document all relevant patient informationand scan results in the electronic health record (EHR), ensuringthat records are complete and accurate. /n
- Ensure that imagingdata is properly labeled and uploaded into the system, and assistwith reports or communications as needed. /n
- Maintain logs ofequipment usage, maintenance, and any issues encountered duringprocedures.

Radiation Safety and Protocols:
/n /n
- While MRI does not use ionizing radiation, ensure safety byfollowing the guidelines for handling contrast agents and anyequipment that could pose a risk to patients. /n
- Adhere toradiation safety standards for other imaging technologies used inthe department, such as when operating in proximity to X-ray or CTequipment. /n
- Follow all established safety protocols, includingmagnetic field safety, to avoid accidents or injuries.

Professional Development and Training:

- Stay current withthe latest MRI technology, scanning techniques, and patient carepractices. /n
- Participate in continuing education programs andobtain necessary certifications to maintain licensure and improveprofessional skills. /n
- Assist in training new MRI technologistsor students on the operation of MRI machines and best practices inpatient care.
