Travel A Mammography Technician (Mammo Tech) is aspecialized radiologic technologist who operates mammographyequipment to perform diagnostic imaging procedures for detectingbreast abnormalities. These images, known as mammograms, help toscreen for breast cancer and other breast-related conditions.

Mammography Technicians are trained to perform the procedure,ensure patient comfort, maintain a high standard of image quality,and assist in patient care throughout the process. /n/n

KeyResponsibilities:

/n /n 1. /n

Performing Mammograms:

/n /n

  • Position and prepare patients for mammography exams, ensuring theyare comfortable and properly positioned. /n
  • Operate mammographyequipment to capture clear, accurate images of the breast tissue./n
  • Ensure proper compression of the breast during imaging toobtain the best possible images while minimizing discomfort for thepatient. /n
  • Assist patients with undressing and putting on agown, as well as positioning the breast for imaging. /n
  • Performdigital mammograms and, if necessary, additional views to obtaincomplete images of the breast.

Patient Care andComfort:

/n /n

  • Greet patients and explain the procedure,answering any questions to alleviate anxiety. /n
  • Educate patientson the importance of mammograms, helping them understand theprocess and ensuring they know what to expect. /n
  • Reassurepatients during the exam, maintaining a calm and empatheticdemeanor. /n
  • Monitor patients for discomfort or any issues duringthe procedure and adjust accordingly.

QualityControl and Image Evaluation:

/n /n

  • Review mammograms for clarityand completeness, ensuring the images meet diagnostic standards. /n
  • Ensure that images are free from artifacts or distortions thatcould hinder diagnosis. /n
  • Work closely with radiologists toensure that high-quality images are produced and evaluate whetheradditional views or retakes are necessary. /n
  • Assist inconducting breast ultrasound or stereotactic biopsy procedures ifneeded to further investigate abnormalities found in mammograms.

Equipment Maintenance and Safety:

/n /n

  • Ensure properoperation of mammography equipment, troubleshooting any technicalissues as needed. /n
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning ofthe equipment, following safety protocols and manufacturerguidelines. /n
  • Follow safety standards for radiation protectionto minimize patient and staff exposure. /n
  • Ensure the machine iscalibrated and functioning correctly to provide optimal images.

Record Keeping and Documentation:

/n /n

  • Maintainpatient records, including medical history, previous mammogramresults, and details of the current exam. /n
  • Document relevantpatient information, such as imaging results, positioning, and anyspecial instructions or requests from the physician. /n
  • Ensureall procedures, patient information, and images are properly loggedinto the hospital’s Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.

Medical Team:

/n /n

  • Communicateeffectively with radiologists and physicians regarding images thatmay require further attention or additional imaging. /n
  • Assist inexplaining test results to patients, helping them understand whatcomes next in the process if further evaluation or follow-up isneeded. /n
  • Work closely with the healthcare team to ensurecontinuity of care for the patient, especially if abnormal resultsare found.

Safety and RegulatoryStandards:

  • Ensure compliance with Health InsurancePortability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations regardingpatient privacy and confidentiality. /n
  • Follow all radiationsafety protocols to protect both patients and staff fromunnecessary exposure. /n
  • Adhere to American College of Radiology(ACR) and FDA guidelines for mammography procedures and safety.

Patient Education:

  • Provide patients withpost-exam care instructions and answer any questions regarding theresults, follow-up, or potential next steps. /n
