BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Performs a variety of MRIprocedures utilizing a high-energy magnetic field for diagnosis ofdisease processes and delineation of both normal/abnormal anatomyas well as pathological conditions in areas of the humanbody.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
NoMinimum Education:
Completion of an accredited Health Scienceprogram.
License/Certification Required:
Registered by the AmericanRegistry of Radiographic Technology (ARRT). MRI certificationpreferred.
Minimum Work Experience:
1 year general radiologyexperience required. 3-5 years of general radiology experience orequivalent with 2 years MRI experience preferred.
REQUIREDKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Operate MRI scanner and auxiliary equipment to produce qualityimages. Ability to work flexible hours-alternate shift, rotates on callfor evening, weekend and holiday coverage. Able to adapt to new programs and equipment upgrades asradiological field advances, effective organizational and timemanagement skills, effective written and verbal communicationskills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains up-to-date knowledge and skill levels in: Area ofexpertise to ensure production of high quality images, Safeoperation of equipment and accessories with proper warm-upexposure, daily QC and good reporting techniques (Follows propershutdown procedures for scanning and processing equipment. Cleansequipment without damaging it. Keeps assigned area clean andorganized.), Quality Control guidelines, State and Federalregulations and department policies/procedures, Utilization of thePicture Archiving and Communications System (PACS), Completion ofSafety Reports, Basic scheduling in Community Wide Scheduling(CWS). Demonstrates Radiation and MRI Safety and Protection techniquesto minimize hazards, including: ALARA, Dosimetry, Shielding,Collimation, Magnetic field. Performs correct exam on correct patient: Utilize two patientidentifiers: name and date of birth ( Using the Meditechrequisition and the patient’s ID band along with activecommunication with family), and Verify the Meditech order with thephysician’s order ( Initial physician’s order confirmingverification.) Follows the PACS and Meditech workflow: Reviews, approves andenters information in a timely and accurate manner after eachpatient.
Including:
Patient Tracking data(exam start/ed times),technologists notes and name, correct patient history. QAresolution, Moving Exams, and Notifies the department and/or PACSmanager of any errors or outstanding problems with completingpatient data. Consults with the radiologist on duty to assure correctscanning parameters when necessary: Trauma or difficult and/orinfrequent studies. Acts as
MRI Safety Officer:
Demonstrates safety in all MRIzones, Monitors personnel and equipment entering MRI Zones III andIV, Conducts proper screening of patients for ferromagneticobjects, such as: Pacemakers, watches, bankcards., Reports to MRISafety Committee appropriately. Trains and educates appropriatestaff regarding MRI safety. Ensures compliance of MRI SafetyPolicy. Reviews and updates MRI policies, ensuring they are incompliance with all regulations.
Conducts safety audits accuratelyand as instructed. Provides excellent patient care and creates an environment inwhich customers feel valued and respected. Demonstrates a caring and interested manner; Listens carefullyto customers’ questions and concerns; paraphrases their statements;seeks feedback. Maintains an appropriate level of eye contact.
Handles telephone calls and in-person contacts in a friendly,courteous and sensitive manner. Promptly acknowledges customers;provides an indication that they will be helped as soon aspossible. Helps patients to feel comfortable by introducing selfand calling patients by their name. Provides explanations (withinscope of practice) to patients about upcoming exams and procedures,using terminology and phrasing which is responsive to andappropriate for patient’s age, language skills, and emotionalstate. Keeps patients informed about actions to be taken. Promptlyand courteously provides the information and services requested bycustomers. Effectively communicates and problem-solves with customers:
Takes the initiative to seek assistance from others; informscustomers of the need to do so; explains who is being called uponto help; ensures a smooth transition to other parties. Providesconsistent and timely follow-through which ensures that allcustomer requests are addressed in a way which minimizesinconvenience to all parties. Maintains composure, efficiency and apositive, customer-service oriented manner when interacting withall customers, including those who are ill, angry, confused oremotionally distressed. Makes every attempt to defuse potentiallyvolatile situations, speaks calmly and firmly, express compassionand understanding, provides constructive suggestions forresolution. Recommends changes to policies,procedures and department environment to enhance the department’sability to provide optimum service to all customers. Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully andaccountably. Proactively assists in other areas when patient volume is lowin assigned area.
