Job Description

Activity Director Gardens of Hazel Green 372 Jimmy Fisk Road, Hazel Green, AL 35750 Activity Coordinator/Life Enrichment Director Must have enthusiasm and energy!! Looking for creativity and must have a genuine interest in Senior Adults. Must be creative and able to develop programs and activities that will stimulate the interest of the residents. Must be enthusiastic, have a positive attitude, be a self-starter, and capable of using good judgment in making decisions. Must be able to effectively communicate with resident’s families, to keep them informed of various programs, activities, and needs of the residents, as well as representatives of community agencies, churches, schools who provide services to our residents. Must be able to work cooperatively with other employees. Must have a valid Alabama driver’s license and be capable of driving a car or van (MVR and proof of insurance must be provided).

EDUCATION

High school education. Experience in working with Senior Adults and/or experience in planning and directing activities and programs desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; sit; walk; use hands to finger; reach with arms and hands; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; pivot; twist; turn; talk or hear; taste or smell. Must be able to lift, push and/or move at least 50 pounds in order to assist in life skills, such as bathing, physical rescue, and wheel chair assistance. Specific vision abilities may include close vision; color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Exposure to outside weather conditions while working with residents.

WORK PERFORMED
  • Initial interview of the resident and sponsor to determine the individual activity/recreational interest of the resident.
  • Plan and develop activity/recreational programs according to the resident’s interest using community resources, volunteer programs and in-house staff.
  • Plans and posts a monthly activity calendar. Implements activities per schedule.
  • Informs resident’s sponsor of special programs and events.
  • Plans special activities involving residents’ family (Open House, cook-outs, ice cream social, etc.).
  • Plans and directs physical exercise/activity programs.
  • Works with residents who do not participate in group programs to encourage participation.
  • Coordinates community involvement in activities in/out of facility.
  • Brings to attention of Administrator any residents concerns about activities.
  • Drives van or car to transport residents for scheduled activities.
  • Transports residents for scheduled appointments.
  • Assists in residents care as needed and directed and perform any and all other duties as assigned.
