Full-Time Welcome to Oakwood Sports Center, Glastonbury’s premier destination for sports and entertainment. As part of the National Sport Group (NSG) family, we are proud to be one of Connecticut’s most historic indoor sports facilities, with a rich legacy dating back to the 1970s. Our recent major renovations in the summer of 2024, including a brand-new kitchen and renovated bar, have modernized our amenities while preserving the history that has been built over the past 50 years.
Position Overview:
The Basketball Program Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing all aspects of the basketball program, including youth and/or adult leagues, clinics, camps, and tournaments. This role emphasizes building a high-quality, sustainable program from the ground up , including developing coaching staff, increasing athlete participation, establishing strong community ties, and creating a positive, competitive, and inclusive culture. The director will oversee both youth and advanced level programming, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and goals.
Key Responsibilities:
1.
Program Planning and Management:
o Design and implement basketball programs for various age groups and skill levels o Coordinate seasonal leagues, skills clinics, training sessions, and special events o Maintain updated schedules, rosters, and facility use calendars o Ensure all programs are inclusive, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with organizational goals 2.
Staff Supervision:
o Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise coaches, referees, and support staff o Provide ongoing support, evaluations, and professional development for staff o Foster a positive team culture among coaches and volunteers 3. Communication & Outreach o Serve as the main point of contact for parents, players, and staff o Develop marketing materials and promote programs through social media, flyers, and local outreach o Respond promptly to inquiries and resolve conflicts professionally 4.
Administrative Responsibilities:
o Manage program budget, track expenses, and order necessary equipment o Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, waivers, and organizational policies o Collect and analyze program feedback to continuously improve offerings
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in coaching or directing basketball programs, with demonstrated success in building or scaling a program
- Strong background in basketball as a coach, player, or administrator
- Previous experience in program management, youth sports, or recreational leadership
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
