Job Description
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR/PROGRAM SUPERVISORDEPARTMENT OF AGING SERVICESSUMMARY
Assists Executive Director with overall administration and supervision of the Department of Aging Services, including planning, organization and implementation of a comprehensive program of social, recreational and educational activities and other services for citizens of the City, age fifty-five and over. Maintains financial records of the center and is responsible for handling and accounting of all money received from various activities. Responsible for overall administration of Senior-Community Center in absence of Director. Schedules speakers, classes, events and activities. Oversees rental requests for use of Senior-Community Center facilities, includes processing of applications, compilation of master facility schedule and custodial set-up instructions, confirmation of rental agreements and other written and/or verbal communication with renting organizations. Organizes all Senior-Community Center parties, dances and social events. Plans and schedules all Senior-Community Center classes, and recruits and assigns instructors. Creates, produces and edits Senior Community Center monthly newsletter. Handles all bookkeeping for the Senior-Community Center. Promotes programs in-house and through media. Assists in updating and maintenance of Department of Aging website. Supervises volunteers; and in the absence of the Executive Director supervises Senior-Community Center staff. Orders all supplies and materials for operations. Records and prepares minutes of monthly Commission on Aging meetings. Types reports, and composes memorandums and various correspondence. Maintains department records. Prepares information on estimated income and expenses for Senior-Community Center. Assists Executive Director in developing budget for the department. Assists in administering and supervising group programs. Contacts other senior centers and schedules on and off site leagues and competitions. Assists with trip scheduling, grants writing, and alternative revenue development. Liaison between Senior Center and area senior businesses; acquires door prizes and sponsors for events and activities. Assists with coordination of fundraising and special events. Assists in providing information on health programs, and with provision of Choices counseling as required. Performs other duties as assigned by Executive Director.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and
ABILITIES
Requires good managerial, organizational and human relations skills; bookkeeping experience, experience in social, recreational or educational programming and planning. Must be proficient with computer applications for data management, word processing and e-mail systems. Requires good oral and written communication skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field and 2 years relevant experience; or Associates degree in human services or related field and 4 years relevant experience.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operators License, must obtain an A Public Passenger Endorsement within 6 months of hire date. Choices Counselor Certification preferred.
SCHEDULE and HOURS:
Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Working 37 hours per week.

SALARY RANGE
$74,210 – and up to $97,480/yr. (dependent upon experience)•
