The ideal candidate will have a strong background in recreational therapy, dementia care, and event planning, with a focus on creating engaging activities tailored to the needs of individuals in long-term care and assisted living settings. This role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to manage schedules effectively while fostering a supportive environment for residents. Duties Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive activities program that meets the diverse needs and interests of residents. Plan and coordinate recreational activities, events, and outings that promote social interaction and physical engagement. Collaborate with caregiving staff to ensure activities are appropriate for residents with varying levels of ability, including those with dementia. Conduct assessments to identify individual resident preferences and needs regarding activities. Maintain accurate records of participation in activities and evaluate the effectiveness of programs regularly. Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff to promote upcoming events and gather feedback. Provide aging issues counseling as needed to support residents’ emotional well-being. Ensure all activities comply with safety regulations and promote a safe environment for all participants. Requirements Proven experience in event planning or recreational therapy within long-term care or assisted living environments. Strong understanding of dementia care principles and techniques. Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with residents, families, and staff. Ability to manage schedules efficiently while balancing multiple activities simultaneously. Compassionate approach to caregiving with a focus on enhancing residents’ quality of life. Knowledge of aging issues counseling is preferred but not required. Certification in recreational therapy or related field is a plus.
