The Recreational Therapistfacilitates recreational therapy groups and organizes leisureprograms for adult clients in a behavioral healthcare setting. TheRecreation Therapist supervises and coordinates activities tosupport clients on their journey to optimal functioning andindependence by providing recreation resources and opportunitieswith a focus on improving health and wellbeing. The RecreationTherapist is responsible for completing recreation assessments togain insights needed to meet the therapeutic needs of individualclients.
Relationships and ContactsWithin the organization:
Initiates and maintains strong professional relationships withpeers, immediate supervisor, and leadership throughout theorganization.
Outside the organization: Initiates and maintainsstrong professional relationships with clients and families,clinical providers, community partners and vendors, asneeded.
Essential ResponsibilitiesCompletes and documentstherapeutic recreational assessments.
Collaborates with clinicalteam members to identify and implement appropriate interventions tomeet the therapeutic needs of individual clients.
Plans andfacilitates therapeutic group and individual therapy to assistclients in developing interpersonal skills and relationships,consistent with treatment goals in accordance with the programschedule.
Actively participates and engages with clients inrecreational activities within the milieu; monitors behavioralinterventions and provides skills coaching, as needed.
Organizes andfacilitates client outings and off-site activities, therapeuticallysupporting social and emotional needs of clients.
Provides communityre-integrative activities that teach or re-teach hobbies andrecreational activities, creating opportunities for clients topractice skills learned throughout the therapeuticprogram.
Therapeutically interacts with clients maintains and modelsappropriate boundaries and social behavior; modifies approaches asneeded in support of coping skill development andutilization.
Completes all documentation required for each client incompliance with State, accrediting bodies, quality guidelines andpayor source guidelines.
Reacts therapeutically in crisissituations, as needed.
Maintains therapeutic relationship withclients using praise and other reinforcers to encourage appropriatebehaviors and attitudes.
Plans activities, secures, and maintainssupplies within allocated budget parameters.
Assumes responsibilityfor performance of job duties in the safest possible manner toensure client and team member safety, immediately reports allpreventable hazards and unsafe practices.
AdditionalResponsibilitiesConducts specialized groups as assigned based oneducation, training, and experience; supervises or co-leads groupswith staff or interns when appropriate.
Participates in qualityimprovement initiatives aimed at enhancing client outcomes andstrengthening clinical service delivery.
Maintains knowledge ofcurrent trends and developments in the field by reading appropriatebooks, journals and other literature and attending relatedseminars, conferences, and the like.
Maintains collaborativeprofessional relationships and approaches conflict in aconstructive manner.
Proactively identifies opportunities forcontinuous quality improvement, offer solutions, and participateprocess improvement initiatives.

What We Are Seeking:
Education andExperiencePosition requires a bachelors degree in psychology,therapeutic recreation, or other related field and two or moreyears of experience within a behavioral healthcare setting.
