K-12 DUTIES
Instructional Leadership Act as the curriculum and instructional leader of the department. Serve as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT). Use the data inquiry cycle to analyze data (e.g., MCAS, common assessments, benchmarks, diagnostic assessments) and identify instructional needs. Observe and provide non-evaluative feedback to both professional and non-professional teachers to support continuous growth and improve student learning outcomes. Keep the department informed about current educational trends in curriculum and pedagogy. Attend and provide professional development meetings (on school time). Oversee and support the development and documentation of the curriculum, following the expectations set forth by the district and the building administrative team. In collaboration with the building and district administration, develop departmental syllabi and curriculum documents using the UbD framework, incorporating stages 1, 2, and 3. Assess and monitor the effectiveness of these resources with staff members. Serve as a member of the district-level curriculum review committee. Assist in evaluating, selecting, and adopting curricular materials, including textbooks. Department Leadership In collaboration with the building and district administration, plan and lead department meetings on a monthly basis. Assist the administration in hiring teachers within the department. Support new members of the department, including substitute teachers Be a member (school will pay dues as part of the budget) of the National and State organizations for that department/discipline. Act as a liaison between the department and the district and school administration. Be available at evening meetings with as much advance notice as possible when necessary. Serve on the High School Site Council on a rotating basis. Inventory and order departmental supplies. In collaboration with the building administration, determine and revise the department budget. Adhere to the policies and procedures adopted by the Bellingham School Committee.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Not more than four (4) teaching periods. Guaranteed department business period, and except in unforeseen emergencies, a second department business period. No homeroom assignment except for the advisory period. No additional coverage, except in emergency cases. The term of appointment is for a period of one year. A Department Coordinator may be removed and returned to a full-time teaching position. This must occur for just cause or at the end of their annual appointment. Department Heads are required to work the same number of days as regular teachers and may be required to work up to 10 (ten) additional days, for which they will be compensated at their per diem rate. Department Heads may not count themselves as a department member.
Salary:
BTA Contract $6,500 Stipend
