Summary
Evaluates and treats inpatients and outpatients for aquatic therapy. Maintains pool chemicals, cleanliness, and enforces safety requirements. Therapist provides recreation therapy services to rehabilitation inpatients and outpatients as caseload permits.

Provide aquatic therapy
Complete all required documentation
Maintain effective working relationships with staff
Supervise interns as needed
Participate in department meetings and in-services
Maintains pool chemicals at acceptable levels
Ensures pool remains clean
Enforces safety requirements in the pool area
Pursue professional development
Support health system and CFVRC performance improvement activities
Provide therapeutic recreation activities to rehabilitation inpatients
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Education and Formal Training:
Bachelor of Science in Allied Health field (Recreational Therapy, Exercise Physiology or Adapted Physical Education) with appropriate licensure or certification required
North Carolina License and national certification to practice Recreation Therapy required
WSI, Red Cross Lifeguard certification preferred
Professional Rescuer CPR preferred
Aquatic Exercise Association certification preferred
Adaptive Aquatics certification preferred
Certified Pool and Spa Operator certification preferred
CPR training will occur during orientation and must be maintained during employment
Work Experience:
Experience working with persons with disabilities
Experience with pain management, back/orthopedic injuries, cardiac and neurological patients preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills Verbal and written skills required Demonstrate problem solving skills
Ability to quickly assess situations and respond promptly and appropriately
Ability to evaluate as well as treat pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to continually work with patients who may be impulsive, confused, or aggressive
Must have excellent visual acuity to rapidly scan and monitor patients, and visual acuity for driving and working with records
Must be able to speak and hear clearly to give instructions, interact with patients and staff, and lead group activities
Must be able to lift and transfer patients and push wheelchairs
Long periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
