The above reflects the anticipated hourly range for this position if hired to work, The Compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate’s educational background, skills and professional experience, Job Summary Under the supervision of a Child Life Specialist or Recreational Therapist, plans and implements diversional recreation services to assist with alleviating the effects of hospitalization and or improve quality of life, Maintains program areas and supplies, Essential Job Functions Demonstrates knowledge of developmental and diagnosis and is able to apply it in daily practice, Cleans departmental equipment and organizes closets as designated in the competency expectations, following established timelines, taking initiative to organize and clean other areas when needed, Monitors and maintains inventory of general supplies and equipment as designated in competency expectations, ordering supplies in an accurate timely manner, Assists department staff in planning and implementation of therapy groups, special events and community trips, Communicates effectively with patients, families and staff, Orients and supervises assigned volunteers and community groups according to hospital policy, Ability to assess and evaluate overall patient level of functioning to determine appropriate activities and adaptations, Performs other duties as assigned based on need of department Maintains a safe environment for patient care activities In LTC programs, completes required documentation on day of service Implements diversional recreation activities and opportunities for a variety of ages and abilities Formal Education and Job Related Experience Higher Education preferred, Previous work experience with children with special needs or previous experience with children, Experience working with challenging behaviors is preferred, Ability to plan activities and adapt to the environment to suit a variety of disabling conditions, Tact, enthusiasm, initiative and judgment in performance of duties, Flexibility related to scheduled hours each week is required to meet patient needs, Certification American Heart Association BLS Provider Certification required, License Valid drivers license required, Education and Experience Additional Comments None Job Specific Contacts Direct contact with patients, families, other therapists, nursing staff and volunteers, Physical Demands Therapy areas, community settings, nursing units, Working Environment Additional Comments Physical stamina for lifting and therapeutic handling of patients, Job Provides Direction To None Additional Comments None RWJBarnabas Health is an Equal Opportunity Employer
