Job Title:

Assistant Director of Recreation We are seeking a compassionate, energetic, and creative Assistant Director of Recreation to join our team, a long-term care facility dedicated to enriching the lives of our residents. This position supports the Director of Recreation in planning, organizing, and directing a comprehensive program of recreational activities that promote the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of nursing home residents in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Responsibilities:

Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of daily, weekly, and monthly recreational programs and events tailored to the needs and interests of residents. Help coordinate and supervise group and one-on-one activities, including but not limited to arts and crafts, music, games, religious services, outings, and seasonal events. Support the documentation of residents’ participation, progress, and individualized activity plans in accordance with New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) regulations and facility policy. Help train, schedule, and supervise recreation aides, volunteers, and interns. Ensure the safe use and maintenance of recreation equipment and supplies. Communicate regularly with residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members to assess resident needs and interests. Serve as acting Director in the absence of the Director of Recreation. Participate in care plan meetings and interdisciplinary team conferences as needed. Maintain compliance with all state and federal regulations, including CMS requirements.

Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Gerontology, or related field preferred. Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or eligible preferred. Minimum of 1-2 years experience in a healthcare recreation setting, preferably in a long-term care environment. Knowledge of NY State DOH regulations related to recreation services. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 lbs. Must be able to lead activities and transport residents in wheelchairs when necessary.
