Summary SUMMARY Under general supervision, to act as lead personfor nursing or nursing support personnel and to be responsible forthe operation of an assigned area for each shift and ensure optimalpatient care; plans, implements, and evaluates patient care.

Performs related duties as required.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOBFUNCTIONS NOTE

The following are the duties performed by employeesin this classification, however, employees may perform otherrelated duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed arenecessarily performed by each individual in the classification.

Assists immediate supervisor in the preparation of personnelperformance records; assists with conducting studies; preparesrequired records and reports. Develops, implements, evaluates andmakes modifications in the nursing care plan; documents or monitorsdocumentation of care given according to mandated criteria and atrequired intervals. Develops, implements, evaluates and modifies anorganizational plan for the provision of care for all patients inan assigned area for a given work period. During the course of ashift, makes regular rounds to all patients in assigned area toassess nursing care and status of assignment of personnel; makesreassignment as necessary and provides assistance, teaching, orguidance as needed. Gathers and assess information about patientsto meet nursing needs; assists and consults with physician in theperformance of procedures and diagnostic tests; contractsphysicians and/or other departments to obtain or provide patientinformation. Monitors implementation of standards set by State andNational regulatory and/or accrediting agencies; verifies thatadministrative and personnel procedures are completed accurately;interprets and implements polices, procedures and regulations.

Monitors the regularity of programs providing for infectioncontrol, quality assurance, continuity of care, teaching ofpatients, and coordination of care with other departments.

Participates in promoting a healthful, safe, and therapeuticenvironment for patient and families; set up and controls theenvironment essential for infection control. Promotes cordial andproductive patterns of communication among staff, patients andfamily members; communicates regularly to immediate supervisor anyneeds, problems or suggestions. Provides patient care according toestablished standards and criteria and in conformity with nursingcare plans.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:

Graduate of anaccredited Nursing Program required; Bachelor’s degree in Nursingpreferred.

Minimum Experience:

Two years of experience as aClinical Nurse II with AHS or the equivalent of three yearsfull-time professional nursing experience in a large acute facilityin the clinical area of application. (

NOTE:

a Bachelor’s Degree inNursing from an accredited school may be substituted for one yearof the required experience.)

Required License/Certifications:

CCRN

  • Critical Care Registered Nurse is desirable.
RequiredLicenses/Certifications:

ACLS

  • Advanced Cardiac Life SupportCertification
  • issued by AHA
  • American Heart Association, may berequired per facility or unit/department specialty according topatient care policies.
Required Licenses/Certifications:

Acquirecertification in chemotherapy within one year of hire (certainpositions only)

Required Licenses/Certifications:

BLS

  • Basic LifeSupport Certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Other advanced life support certifications may be required perunit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

CEN

  • Certified Emergency Nurseis desirable (for Emergency Department positions)
RequiredLicenses/Certifications:

Certification as a Public Health Nurse inthe State of California (required for certain positions).

RequiredLicenses/Certifications:

Completion of Perinatal Safety Moduleswithin 3 months of hire. Evidence of completion and continuingannual competency must be in the employee file and/or AHS’slearning management system (LMS) (for certain positions).

RequiredLicenses/Certifications:

Coronary Care Unit certification (requiredfor certain positions at Fairmont Hospital’s Monitoring Unit).

Required Licenses/Certifications:

CPI

  • Crisis PreventionIntervention Training (required for all positions at John GeorgePsychiatric Pavilion; and preferred for certain positions in theEmergency Department).
Required Licenses/Certifications:

NRP

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification
  • AHA American HeartAssociation (required per unit/department specialty according topatient care policies).
Required Licenses/Certifications:

PALS

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification
  • AHA American HeartAssociation (Required for Emergency Department or if overseeing orproviding pediatric care on a regular basis).
RequiredLicenses/Certifications:

TNCC

  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (Requiredfor Emergency department).
Required Licenses/Certifications:

Validlicense to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State ofCalifornia.

PAY RANGE

$73.62 to $108.04 per hour The pay range forthis position reflects the base pay scale for the role at AlamedaHealth System. Final compensation will be determined based onseveral factors, including but not limited to a candidate’sexperience, education, skills, licensure and certifications,departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements,and the operational needs of the organization.
