Job Summary Provides planning and delivery of directand indirect patient care through the nursing process ofAssessment, Planning, Intervention, and Evaluation. Developsnursing care plans in coordination with patient, family andinterdisciplinary staff as necessary. Communicates changes inpatient’s clinical condition with Physicians, NursingSupervisor/Manager, and co-workers as appropriate. Participates indischarge planning process. Essential Functions
- Promote themission, vision, and values of the organization
- Assess patientsat intervals as stated in policies and procedures
- Develop anindividualized perioperative patient plan of care
- Implement theplan of care by:
- Protecting the patient from injury caused byextraneous objects and chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical, andthermal sources
- Performing accounting procedures to protect thepatient from unintended retained surgical items
- Performinginterventions necessary to ensure that the patient’s procedure isperformed on the correct site, side, and level
- Managing thepatient’s specimens according to organizational policy andprocedures
- Communicating the patient’s current status to relevantparties throughout the continuum of care
- Administeringmedications safely and correctly
- Performing interventions tomaintain the patient’s wound and tissue perfusion at or abovebaseline levels.
- Performing interventions to maintain the statusof the patient’s genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletalendocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological systemsand fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balances at or above baselinelevels
- Performing interventions to ensure the patient is at orreturned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediatepostoperative period
- Performing interventions to protect thepatient from surgical site infection
- Assessing the knowledgelevel of the patient or designated support person
- Providingeducation regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritionalmanagement, medication management, pain management, woundmanagement, and expected responses to the operative or invasiveprocedure
- Involving the patient or designated support personactively in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan ofcare and the rehabilitation process
- Protecting the patient’srights, dignity, and privacy
- Providing age-specific, culturallycompetent, ethical care within legal standards of practice; and
- Providing consistent and comparable care regardless of the setting
- Evaluate the patient’s progress toward attaining outcomes
- Transfer care as applicable
- Delegate tasks according to the stateNurse Practice Act and job descriptions
- Document nursing careaccurately, completely, and legibly
- Collaborate effectively withother disciplines as applicable
- Participate in quality review andperformance improvement projects
- Participate in the performanceappraisal process
- Use problem-solving and conflict resolutionskills to foster effective work relationships with team members.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations:
- Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based onage of the patient and their clinical condition
- Basic computerknowledge
- Able to organize tasks, develop action plans, setpriorities and function under stressful situations
- Ability tomaintain a good working relationship both within the department andwith other departments
- Approximate percent of time required totravel: 0% Must read, write and speak fluent English Must have goodand regular attendance
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications Education:
- Graduation from an accredited Bachelorof Science in Nursing.
- Associate Degree in Nursing or NursingDiploma program
Licenses/Certification:
- Current state licensureas Registered Nurse
- BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications Required.
De-escalation training is required
Experience:
- Minimum sixmonths’ OR/Endo experience in an acute care setting preferred
