Job Summary:

The RN ClinicalNurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team oflicensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients,families and significant others receive individualized highquality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environmentthat is administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and issupported through the WellStar Shared Governance Model. Theframework for practice is steered by the WellStar ProfessionalPractice Model, 5-Star Nursing and evidence based practice andresearch. RN competencies are derived from these models andsupported by the WellStar Core Competencies.

It is expected that allRN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold thepractice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional NursePractice Act and implements the Scope of Practice and Code ofEthics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As amember of the patient services team, it is expected that theindividual upholds the voice of the patient, system policies andprocedures while supporting service excellence goals..

CoreResponsibilities and Essential Functions:

• Performs the Nursing Process (assessment; diagnosis;identification of outcomes; planning; implementation andevaluation) in the performance of clinical care using evidence basepractice, uses analytical/critical thinking and ensuring that careis individualized; coordinating care through effective partnershipsrecognizing that caring is central to achieve optimal patient careoutcomes
• Provides relationship-based patient centered care that isconsistent with population specific characteristics (e.g. age,gender, disease, etc) in a manner that adapts service delivery toreflect an understanding of cultural diversity
• Always partnerswith the patient and significant others (as appropriate) using suchappropriate method for setting and purpose (e.g., bedside shiftreport; interdisciplinary rounds; just in time and planned patientteaching; keeping the patient and significant others updated andmaking the patient’s goals the focus of the plan of care
• Practices using current clinical practice standards. Teamwork andCollaboration
• Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safequality patient care that promotes the professional care deliverymodel. This includes, but is not limited to diverse and inclusiveinterdisciplinary communication methods (interdisciplinary rounds,case review, etc); completion of timely documentation and promotionof a respectful, inclusive clinical environment
• Demonstratesteamwork and collaboration by practicing in a manner that isfiscally responsible and promotes the recruitment and retention ofall healthcare team members
• Participates and supports performanceimprovement inclusive of all stakeholders, research and researchutilization to promote safe, quality patient care includinginitiating and/or leading such activities as well as, promoting aninter/intra-disciplinary process and actively supports/participatesin shared governance at all levels in the system. • Completes all initial and ongoingprofessional competency assessment, required mandatory education,population specific education
• Serves as a preceptor and/or ormentor for other professional nurses (and staff or students for alldisciplines) to ensure that there is a current and future qualifiedworkforce; modeling the professional practice of nursing andcreating a healthy work environment Evidence Based Practice andResearch
• Promotes Evidence based practice, nursing research andperformance improvement in nursing. Participates in activities suchas value analysis as part of the decision making process inevaluating patient care products
• Upholds all health caresystem/organizational policies and procedures and clinicalcompetencies put forth by this job description and professionalassociation including legal, regulatory and accreditationrequirements and standards ensuring by way of example, such goalsas TJC Patient Safety Goals and WellStar Health Systems’ safetyabsolutes
• Participates in data collection, poses relevant clinicalquestions to advanced evidence based practice. Consults appropriateexperts and uses appropriate resources and evidence to addresspractice questions. Resources and Support
• Proactively plans forthe care of patients across the care continuum in the course ofgiving direct patient care
• Participates in the development ofprotocols and procedures when called upon or throughself-initiation in collaboration with care managers and othermembers of the health care team to achieve best practice outcomes(i.e., decrease in re-admission rates; avoidable days; adverseevents; etc)
• Supports efficient and effective use of human andmaterial resources.
