TravelNurseSource is working with Magnet Medical to find aqualified Med/Surg RN in Bessemer, Alabama, 35022! Pay Information$1,724 per week About The Position A Registered Nurse (RN) -MedSurg/Telemetry provides comprehensive nursing care to patientsin a medical-surgical (MedSurg) unit with a focus on telemetrymonitoring. These patients may have a wide range of conditions,including cardiovascular issues, respiratory conditions,post-operative recovery, and other acute illnesses or injuries thatrequire constant monitoring. The RN in this role is responsible foradministering medications, monitoring vital signs and heartrhythms, performing assessments, collaborating with healthcareteams, and providing patient education. The primary goal is toensure the safety, comfort, and optimal recovery of patients.

KeyResponsibilities :
Patient Assessment and Monitoring :

Performcomprehensive and continuous assessments of patients, includingevaluating vital signs, heart rhythms (via telemetry), and overallcondition. Monitor and interpret telemetry data to detect anyirregularities in heart rate, rhythm, and other vital parameters,notifying the healthcare team if needed. Assess physical,emotional, and psychological needs of patients, developingindividualized care plans to promote recovery and wellness.

Medication Administration and Management :

Administer prescribedmedications, including oral, intravenous, and intramuscularmedications, while ensuring proper dosing and timing. Monitorpatients for side effects and adverse reactions to medications,immediately reporting any issues to the physician or healthcareteam. Provide pain management interventions and adjust care basedon patient response and comfort level.

Telemetry and CardiacMonitoring :

Monitor patients with telemetry units to assess heartrate, rhythm, and overall cardiac health, documenting and reportingany irregularities to the medical team. Assist in theinterpretation of telemetry readings, ensuring prompt interventionfor any abnormal findings such as arrhythmias, tachycardia, orbradycardia. Maintain and troubleshoot telemetry equipment toensure proper function and reliable patient monitoring.

Wound Careand Post-Surgical Care :

Provide post-operative care for surgicalpatients, including monitoring incision sites, managing drains, andensuring proper wound healing. Perform dressing changes, assess forsigns of infection, and educate patients on post-surgical careinstructions. Administer treatments to manage or preventcomplications, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pressure ulcers,or infections.

Patient Education :

Educate patients and theirfamilies on disease management, including medication regimens,lifestyle modifications, and post-discharge care. Offer guidance onmanaging chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, andheart disease, ensuring patients understand their role inmaintaining health. Provide education on fall prevention,nutrition, activity restrictions, and discharge planning.

Collaboration with

Healthcare Team :

Work closely with physicians,nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other healthcareproviders to implement and adjust patient care plans. Participatein daily rounds to discuss patient progress, care needs, andtreatment adjustments. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams,including physical therapy, social work, and dietitians, to provideholistic care to patients.

Emergency Response and Critical Care :

Respond promptly to medical emergencies, including cardiac arrests,respiratory distress, and sudden changes in patient condition.

Provide immediate interventions, including CPR, advanced cardiaclife support (ACLS), or other life-saving measures, incollaboration with the healthcare team. Manage patients whoexperience acute changes in their condition, escalating care asnecessary (e.g., transferring to ICU if required).

Documentationand Reporting :

Maintain accurate, timely, and thoroughdocumentation of all assessments, interventions, patient responses,and communications in the electronic health record (EHR). Ensurethat patient information is up-to-date and readily available forother healthcare professionals involved in patient care. Report anychanges in patient condition or concerns to the appropriatehealthcare provider and follow up on recommendations.

InfectionControl and Safety :

Follow infection control protocols to preventthe spread of infections, including proper hand hygiene, use ofpersonal protective equipment (PPE), and sterile techniques whennecessary. Ensure patient safety by regularly assessing for fallrisks, managing medications safely, and preventinghospital-acquired infections. Maintain a clean and safe environmentfor patients by adhering to hospital policies and infectionprevention measures.

Quality Improvement and Continuing Education :

Participate in hospital quality improvement initiatives and patientsafety programs aimed at enhancing care delivery and outcomes. Staycurrent with the latest nursing practices, healthcare technologies,and patient care protocols, especially in telemetry monitoring andMedSurg nursing.
