The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department provides directand indirect patient care. He/She applies the nursing process toplan and implement the care of patients, including patient andfamily education and continuum of care planning. The RegisteredNurse must possess good communication skills and must be able toeffectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients andfamilies. He/She works collaboratively with all members of thehealthcare team to ensure quality care is delivered. Essential Functions Providing nursing care appropriate to the condition and needs ofthe patient. Consulting and collaborating with physicians and other healthcareprofessionals to provide care to the patients. Establishing, reviewing, revising and following the patient plan ofcare Administering medications and treatments within the scope ofpractice for a Registered Nurse Recording patient care activities including assessment,reassessment, and ongoing treatment notes within the patients’medical record. Using a variety of computer systems Operating medical equipment used in the care of the patient Providing patient and family education related to treatment,diagnosis, medications, discharge and self-care. Providing patient care following nursing standards of care in amanner that promotes excellent outcomes, avoids harm to patients,and promotes heath and healing. Job Requirements Minimum Education Must possess an active TN RN license or a compact state licensewith the intent to obtain a TN RN license within 30 days ofhire. Required Skills Must have current BLS within 90 days of hire date. Must obtain ACLS within 90 days of hire date. Must obtain PALS within 90 days of hire date. Must obtain HWC within 6 months of hire date
