Job Description:

Job Purpose The purpose of the RN/Prior Authorization Coordinator is to ensure all necessary prior authorizations have been obtained in an effective and efficient manner. Essential Job Functions Determine, review, and process insurance precertification requests for chemotherapy and all intravenous supportive care therapy. Secure medical authorizations from third party payers for chemotherapy treatments. Interface directly with medical staff to ensure a seamless and efficient process to the patients receiving chemotherapy treatments. Obtain written documentation of each authorization request. Track and report outcomes of each authorization request. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must have knowledge of insurance companies and their policies. Must be organized and efficient. Must be able to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner. Must be able to follow directions. Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written In-depth understanding of individual insurance company drug policies versus state and national IV chemotherapy guidelines required. Knowledge of health insurance industry, organization, electronic medical records software, Excel, and claims processing preferred. Must have excellent time management, organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Education/Experience Must have current Alabama RN license. Must have at least (2) years nursing experience. Knowledge of medical billing preferred. Oncology experience preferred. Working conditions This position works in the billing department of a busy oncology/hematology clinic. This person generally only has contact with patients via phone. Physical requirements This position requires that the employee be able to sit at a desk in front of a computer for up to eight hours a day. Some walking and standing may be required to complete tasks. Direct Reports This position is not a supervisory position.
