Travel The Registered Nurse (RN) in theProgressive Care Unit (PCU) provides intermediate care for patientswho require a higher level of monitoring and treatment than in ageneral medical-surgical unit but do not require the intensive careprovided in an ICU. The RN in PCU delivers critical care topatients recovering from surgery, medical procedures, or acuteconditions, monitoring their progress and responding to changes inhealth status. The RN will work collaboratively with the healthcareteam to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients in the PCUsetting. /n/n

Patient Assessment:

/n/n

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with moderate tohigh acuity, monitoring their physical and emotional needs. /n
  • Continuously evaluate vital signs, lab results, and cardiac rhythmsfor any changes that may indicate a need for intervention. /n
  • Identify potential risks and complications, such as arrhythmias,respiratory distress, or post-operative issues, and actaccordingly. /n /n /n

Patient Care and Monitoring:

  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments, including IVmedications, pain management, and blood products. /n
  • Monitorpatients with telemetry, arterial lines, and other continuousmonitoring devices, adjusting care as necessary. /n
  • Providepost-surgical care for patients who have undergone major surgery,including cardiovascular, neurological, or orthopedic procedures./n
  • Manage patients with complex conditions, such as heartfailure, respiratory distress, and diabetes. /n /n /n

Collaboration:

/n /n

  • Work closely with physicians, nursepractitioners, and other healthcare professionals to develop andimplement individualized care plans. /n
  • Participate in dailyrounds and communicate with the team regarding patient condition,response to treatments, and any changes in care plans. /n /n /n

Patient Education:

/n /n

  • Educate patients and families aboutthe recovery process, treatment plans, medications, and anyrequired lifestyle changes. /n
  • Provide guidance on managingchronic conditions, improving health, and preventing readmissions./n /n /n
  • /n
Documentation:

/n /n

  • Accurately document allnursing interventions, patient assessments, outcomes, and anychanges in condition using electronic health records (EHR). /n
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and hospital-specificdocumentation requirements. /n /n /n
  • /n
Safety & InfectionControl:

/n /n

  • Follow infection control protocols and useappropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize therisk of hospital-acquired infections. /n
  • Respond to changes inpatient condition quickly and appropriately, including initiatingemergency procedures if needed. /n /n /n

Emergency Response:

/n /n

  • Recognize and respond promptly to emergencies, includingcode blue situations or significant changes in patient vital signs./n
  • Perform advanced life support (ALS) or other emergencyinterventions as required. /n /n /n
  • /n
Teamwork and Support:

  • Collaborate with PCU colleagues, support staff, andinterdisciplinary teams to ensure safe and efficient patient care./n
  • Serve as a resource to less experienced nursing staff andparticipate in mentoring or training initiatives. /n /n /n

Quality and Compliance:

  • Follow all hospital protocols andnational standards to maintain high-quality care, safety, andpatient satisfaction. /n
  • Participate in quality improvementactivities and patient safety initiatives to enhance patientoutcomes.
