Job Summary:

TheRN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinaryteam of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure thatpatients, families and significant others receive individualizedhigh quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinicalenvironment that is administered by Nurse Managers and otherleaders and is supported through the Wellstar Shared GovernanceModel. The framework for practice is steered by the WellstarProfessional Practice Model and evidence-based practice andresearch. RN competencies are derived from these models andsupported by the Wellstar Values.

It is expected that all RNClinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practiceof nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse PracticeAct and implements the Scope of Practice and Code of EthicsStandards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a memberof the patient services team, it is expected that the individualupholds the voice of the patient, system policies and procedureswhile supporting service excellence goals.

Performs theNursing Process (assessment; diagnosis; identification of outcomes;planning; implementation and evaluation) in the performance ofclinical care using evidence base practice, usesanalytical/critical thinking and ensuring that care isindividualized; coordinating care through effective partnershipsrecognizing that caring is central to achieve optimal patient careoutcomesB. Provides relationship-based patient centered care thatis consistent with population specific characteristics (e.g. age,gender, disease, etc) in a manner that adapts service delivery toreflect an understanding of cultural diversityC. Always partnerswith the patient and significant others (as appropriate) using suchappropriate method for setting and purpose (e.g., bedside shiftreport; interdisciplinary rounds; just in time and planned patientteaching; keeping the patient and significant others updated andmaking the patients goals the focus of the plan of care.

D.Practices using current clinical practice standards.

Teamwork andCollaborationA. Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safequality patient care that promotes the professional care deliverymodel. This includes, but is not limited to diverse and inclusiveinterdisciplinary communication methods (interdisciplinary rounds,case review, etc); completion of timely documentation and promotionof a respectful, inclusive clinical environmentB. Demonstratesteamwork and collaboration by practicing in a manner that isfiscally responsible and promotes the recruitment and retention ofall healthcare team members.

C. Participates and supportsperformance improvement inclusive of all stakeholders, research andresearch utilization to promote safe, quality patient careincluding initiating and/or leading such activities as well as,promoting an inter/intra-disciplinary process and activelysupports/participates in shared governance at all levels in thesystem.

Professional Development and InitiativeA. Completes allinitial and ongoing professional competency assessment, requiredmandatory education, population specific education.

B. Serves as apreceptor and/or or mentor for other professional nurses (and staffor students for all disciplines) to ensure that there is a currentand future qualified workforce, modeling the professional practiceof nursing and creating a healthy work environmentEvidence BasedPractice and ResearchA. Promotes Evidence based practice, nursingresearch and performance improvement in nursing. Participates inactivities such as value analysis as part of the decision-makingprocess in evaluating patient care products.

B. Upholds all healthcare system/organizational policies and procedures and clinicalcompetencies put forth by this job description and professionalassociation including legal, regulatory and accreditationrequirements and standards ensuring by way of example, such goalsas TJC Patient Safety Goals and Wellstar Health Systems safetyabsolutesC. Participates in data collection, poses relevantclinical questions to advanced evidence-based practice. Consultsappropriate experts and uses appropriate resources and evidence toaddress practice questions.

Resources and SupportA. Proactivelyplans for the care of patients across the care continuum in thecourse of giving direct patient care.

B. Participates in thedevelopment of protocols and procedures when called upon or throughself-initiation in collaboration with care managers and othermembers of the health care team to achieve best practice outcomes(i.e., decrease in re-admission rates; avoidable days; adverseevents; etc).C. Supports efficient and effective use of human andmaterial resources.
