Job Description

Overview Under the supervision of the Director, the RN provides employee health services to employees as needed according to experience, training, certifications for the purpose of facilitating a safe and healthy work environment based upon Policies and Procedures of DCH Health System and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements. Responsibilities Must adhere to all DCH Health System Policies and Procedures as well as standards for external regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies (i.e., Joint Commission, OSHA, Department of Public Health, CDC etc.). Provide employee health services in accordance with policies and procedures by providing assessment and evaluation i.e. pre-employment, drug screening, work injuries, and disease exposure for all employees and volunteers. Coordinate and educate all employees regarding vaccination/immunization and screening protocol programs for the health and safety of all employees. Teach, supervise and counsel employees presenting with exposure to and/or having a possible infectious disease or illness, while working in collaboration with Infection Prevention. Make referrals as appropriate. Maintain Hepatitis B, Rubella, Rubeola, Mumps and Varicella tracking via data entry. Ensure compliance with annual Medical Surveillance screening policy and processes. Assist with creating/updating Policies & Procedures (P&P), standard operating procedures (SOP), and standing orders (SO) ensuring all are up to date and current based on evidence based practice (EBP). Assist with record keeping for TB screening and respirator fit testing. Track and follow up on all blood contacts and exposures to infectious diseases for all DCH facilities. Track and follow up on all environmental complaints at both the RMC and NMC. Track all Tdap, Influenza, Hepatitis B, MMR, Varivax, and Meningitis vaccines, including employees who are due for first or second vaccines. Perform monthly hazard surveillance and safety assessments as requested. Notify employees of any abnormal findings on physicals (i.e. abnormal lab results and/or abnormal chest x-ray results) and make appropriate referrals as indicated. Provide services in a cost-effective manner. Fit test employees and track as indicated. Coordinate annual fit testing with designated departments and track compliance as outlined in plan. Coordinate annual flu clinics and track compliance. Serve as a resource person for any Pandemic Illness/ Disease in accordance with CDC, Alabama Department of Public Health recommendation and designated plan (i.e. COVID 19, Avian, Swine Influenza, Ebola and Smallpox etc.). Assess, evaluate and track those employees presenting with physical restrictions for occupational and non-occupational situations and parking accommodations in collaboration with Employee Health Director. Case management of employee work injuries, for the DCH Health System, in accordance with DCH policies and Alabama State Worker’s Compensation Laws. Work in collaboration with EH Director, HR, and supervisor for employee work accommodation request and document action. Work in collaboration with physicians, managers, insurance carrier and legal if indicated to facilitate the case management process and reach desirable outcomes. Work in collaboration with EH Director and other disciplines to facilitate new program initiative (i.e. Compliance – Random UDS). Track and ensure completion of monthly drug screens (i.e. Continued Work Agreements, Random). Assist with the Leave Management for Leaves of Absence request (i.e. FMLA, Hospital, Military, and Education). Participate on Safe Patient Handling Committee, Workforce Safety Team, and any other as indicated Participate in after hour and weekend call response rotation (i.e. FCDS, Post Accident Screens (UDS & EBT), and Random Drug Screens, Continued Work Agreements etc.). Plan and implement special event projects for the Health System as directed (i.e. annual DCH Health & Wellness Fair, Scale Back Alabama and other health initiatives, intranet implementation and maintenance etc.) Develops and presents educational programs to employees as indicated. Develops and implements manager/supervisor trainings (i.e. Workers’ Comp, Drug & Alcohol etc.).

All other duties as assigned Qualifications RN Graduate (BSN preferred). Current Alabama license, two or more years RN experience in a hospital setting required with a strong knowledge of employee health and epidemiology preferred. Case management of workers’ compensation injuries preferred Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines and maintains proper productivity Ability to lead and actively participate in multidisciplinary teams Basic computer skills Ability to work independently or within a team structure Excellent interpersonal skills and communication style Proven project management experience preferred Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English Must be able to legibly document all information Working Conditions
