Job Summary Provides planning and delivery of direct andindirect patient care through the nursing process of Assessment,Planning, Intervention, and Evaluation. Develops nursing care plansin coordination with patient, family and interdisciplinary staff asnecessary. Communicates changes in patient’s clinical conditionwith Physicians, Nursing Supervisor/Manager, and co-workers asappropriate. Participates in discharge planning process. EssentialFunctions

  • Maintains the standard of nursing care and implementspolicies and procedures of the hospital and nursing department
  • Directs, supervises, provides and evaluates nursing care providedto patients
  • Assigns or delegates tasks based on the needs andcondition of the patient, potential for harm, complexity of thetask, and within scope of practice of the staff to whom the task isdelegated
  • Assigns nursing care team members in accordance withpatient needs, team member’s capabilities and qualifications
  • Documents patient admission assessment and reassessments, patientcare plans and other pertinent information, completely in thepatient’s medical record according to nursing standards andpolicies
  • Performs assessment on all patients on admission andreassessments as per policy. Makes referrals to other disciplinesbased on assessment
  • Develops nursing care plan of assignedpatient on admission, updates plan of care as needed and ensuresplan of care is coordinated with patient, family, and other membersof the team
  • Assesses and reassesses pain. Utilizes appropriatepain management techniques. Educates the patient and familyregarding pain management
  • Revises the plan of care as indicatedby the patient’s response to treatment and evaluates overall plandaily for effectiveness
  • Performs patient care responsibilitiesconsidering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’sage
  • Receives physician’s orders, ensures transcription isaccurate and documents completion
  • Administers medicationutilizing the five rights of medication administration reducing thepotential for medication errors.
  • Formulates a teaching plan basedupon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness oflearning; family is included in teaching as appropriate
  • Assistsphysicians with examinations, treatments and special procedures andperforms services requiring technical and manual skills withinscope of practice
  • Performs treatments and provides services tolevel of licensure
  • Treats patients and their families withrespect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial,cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients andtheir families. Functions as liaison between administration,patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers
  • Interactsprofessionally with patient/family and involves patient/family inthe formation of the plan of care
  • Interprets data about thepatient’s status to identify each patient’s age specific needs andprovide care needed by the patient group
  • Performs all aspects ofpatient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety andreduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
  • Initiates orassists with emergency measures for sudden adverse developments inpatients’ condition
  • Answers telephone, paging system, patients’call lights, anticipates patients’ needs, and makes rounds ofassigned patients and responds as appropriate
  • Consults otherdepartments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinaryapproach to the patient’s needs
  • Provides end of shift report tooncoming nurse, narcotics are counted, documentation is complete,and physician orders signed off
  • Communicates appropriately andclearly to management, co-workers, and physicians
  • Identifies andaddresses psychosocial needs of patients and family; communicateswith Social Service/Discharge Planner regarding both in hospitaland post discharge needs
  • Participates in orientation,instruction/training of new personnel
  • Manages and operatesequipment safely and correctlyKnowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
  • Knowledge of medicationsand their correct administration based on age of the patient andtheir clinical condition
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Able toorganize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities and functionunder stressful situations
  • Ability to maintain a good workingrelationship both within the department and with other departments

  • Must read,write and speak fluent English
  • Must have good and regularattendance
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
SalaryRange:

$43.92

  • Graduation from anaccredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Associate Degree inNursing or Nursing Diploma program Licenses/Certification
  • Currentstate licensure as Registered Nurse
  • BCLS certification required
  • ACLS certifications preferred Experience
  • Minimum six months’Medical/Surgical experience in an acute care setting preferred
