POSITION OVERVIEW
As a clinical nurse assigned to Integrated Anesthesia Associates at New Vision Cataract Center, 605 West Ave Norwalk, CT. The incumbent will be primarily responsible for performing patient pre-operative assessments. They will also act as a liaison between the patient, physician/anesthesiologist, and other nursing staff. To ensure the highest level of quality care has been provided, he/she will be responsible for reviewing medical records, conducting patient interviews, completing anesthesia record documentation, and identifying and communicating issues or problems to the anesthesiologist. This staff registered nurse may also be trained in preparing pre-anesthesia evaluations for outpatient GI and O.R. cases.
EDUCATION
Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing; RN degree.
EXPERIENCE
At least two years of professional nursing experience in a clinical setting. Experience with patient pre-operative screenings preferred. LICENSURE or
CERTIFICATES
Current State of Connecticut RN licensure.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Understanding pre-operative patient preparation practices.
- Must demonstrate the ability to retrieve pertinent patient information in patient charts and records.
- Accurate, complete and legible chart documentation.
- IV technical skills are a plus
- Ability to communicate effectively with external medical facilities and with all levels of clinical staff as well as patients and families.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently.
- Experience with clinical and office computer workstations.
- Knowledge of JCAHO regulatory practices.
- Recognizes legal and policy limits of individual practice.
- CPR
- ACLS Preferred
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
:
- Respects patients’ rights to privacy and confidentiality.
- Provides a safe, efficient, and supportive patient atmosphere.
- Maintains accurate records.
- Completes patient pre-op assessment, gathering required medical record information, and accurately documenting the required information.
- Communicates patient information according to established standards of care, policies, and procedures.
- Provides pertinent information to the physician, family, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team.
- Discusses patient information with other health team members in an appropriate environment.
- Interacts with all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees in a mature, responsible manner to ensure a positive and professional work environment.
- Diffuses/resolves conflicts by appropriately communicating with supervisors and those involved.
- Accepts constructive criticism and gives suggestions in a professional manner.
- Participates in staff meetings, in-services, and other required training programs.
- Is knowledgeable of and in compliance with administrative, medical and nursing policies and procedures.
- Adheres to all facility policies and procedures when providing patient care.
- Received and documents physicians’ orders.
- Participate in Quality Improvement processes and activities.
- Possess clinical skills necessary to provide quality care to all patient age populations.

ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS
Combination of office and exam settings. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Walking and standing are required. Sitting at computer workstations is also required. Commute to Norwalk, early start for 6 am.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILIITIES
Maintains attendance and provide notification for unscheduled absences or tardiness according with established policies. Requests scheduled time off according to the vacation policies. Completes bi-weekly time report according to payroll cycles. Performance reviews will be conducted annually in the anniversary month of the incumbents start date.
Pay:
$55.00 – $57.00 per hour Expected hours: 2 – 3 per week
