The Residential Nurse is responsible for: Communicating with parents, staff, and health providers regarding the management of student health services Staying informed and keeping up to date on developments in public health and changes to local and state rules and federal guidance that impact the school community Providing professional nursing services in accordance with Nursing Standards and CT Licensing requirements Administering medications and treatments to students as needed keeping the MARS up to date Training staff to administer medications and emergency rescue medications Ensuring safe and secure location for medication storage following Department of Children and Families (“DCF”) guidelines. Ensuring all medication orders are up to date and followed explicitly. With parent permission, student physicians may be contacted when questions arise Providing emergency first aid to school staff while on duty as needed Educating staff about allergies and other health care needs of student Participating in team collaboration on the learning plans for students with complex medical issues that impact learning Maintaining current health records for students and staff in accordance with local requirements, including immunization records Developing and updating health forms, policies, and protocols as required Maintaining electronic records related to injuries Developing developmentally appropriate curriculum for students on health topics like nutrition, exercise, puberty, sex education, etc. Delivering lessons on health topics, as needed. Developing programs on health and nutrition topics for parent education workshops and leading those workshops Serving on the School Emergency Response Team (“SERT”) Hubbard Residential is a residential setting for residents with developmental disabilities (ages 14-21). A majority of the residents have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Some of our residents have complex underlying medical conditions, and many or most have significant sensory processing issues, behavioral challenges, and significant speech and language issues.

Reports To:
Head of School Qualifications:

Registered Professional Nurse, Current CT License, bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing or a related health care field, CPR/AED certification, Mandated Reporter training (current) Preferred experience: School nursing or pediatric health, experience working with adults or children with developmental disabilities. First Aid/CPR trainers would be ideal.

Compensation:

$70K annual salary (includes paid vacation during all school breaks), comprehensive benefits and retirement matching.
