JOB SUMMARY
Provides direct and indirect patient care in themedical-surgical setting. Communicates with physicians, supervisor,and co-workers as appropriate about changes in patient’s clinicalcondition including results of diagnostic studies andsymptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately tochanges in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, isable to perform general nursing duties in all departments withadequate supervision.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Ability toperform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessmentsas per policy.
This includes:
adults and general patientpopulation. Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain.
Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates thepatient and family regarding pain management. Ability to reviseplan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatmentand evaluate overall plain daily for effectiveness. Ability toperform waived testing (point-of-care testing, glucometers) perClinical Laboratory’s and the resident care unit’s policies andprocedures. Ability to interpret results of waived tests; takeappropriate action on waived test results. Performs patient careresponsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of careof patient’s age. Knowledge of medications and their correctadministration based on age of the patient and their clinicalcondition. Follows the six (6) medication rights and reduces thepotential for medication errors. Reinforces a teaching plan basedupon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness oflearning, family is included in teaching as appropriate.
Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures andperforms services requiring technical and manual skills.
Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services tolevel licensure. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growthand development over the life span and the skill necessary toprovide age appropriate care to the patient population served. Ableto interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identifyeach patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by thepatient group. Performs all aspects of patient care in anenvironment that optimizes patient safety and reduces thelikelihood of medical/healthcare errors. Supports a culture ofquality and safety. Consults other departments as appropriate toprovide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
Communicates appropriately and clearly to NurseDirector/Supervisor, co-workers and physicians. Identifies andaddresses psychosocial needs of patients and family; communicateswith Case Management regarding both in hospital and post dischargeneeds. Documentation meets current standards and policies. Managesand operates equipment safely and correctly. Coordinates andsupervises patient care as necessary. Performs other related dutiesas assigned or requested.

REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma or equivalent (GED)Current LVN license in the State of Texas Current BLS CertificationIV competency certified ACLS Certification within 90 days
LANGUAGESKILLS
Strong written and verbal communication skills Additionallanguages a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift 50 lbs aloneand 150 lbs with assistance May be required to assist with patientsor equipment up to 500 lbs. Ability to push, pull, lift, bend,kneel twist and reach above shoulder level.
