Medical Surgical UnitDescription:

A 5-Star Hospital seeking a RN that provides directand indirect patient care in the medical-surgical setting.

Communicates with physicians/Nurse Manager/co-workers, asappropriate about changes in patient’s clinical condition includingresults of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is able torespond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or responseto treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursingduties in all departments with adequate supervision. Ability toperform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessmentsas per policy.

This includes:

pediatric, adolescent, geriatric andthe general patient population. Ability to adequately assess andreassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques.

Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. Abilityto revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response totreatment and evaluate overall plain daily for effectiveness.

Ability to perform waived testing (point-of-care testing,glucometers) per Clinical Laboratory’s and the resident care unit’spolicies and procedures. Ability to interpret results of waivedtests; take appropriate action on waived test results. Performspatient care responsibilities considering needs specific to thestandard of care of patient’s age. Knowledge of medications andtheir correct administration based on age of the patient and theirclinical condition. Follows the six (6) medication rights andreduces the potential for medication errors. Formulates a teachingplan based upon identified learning needs and evaluateseffectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching asappropriate. Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians withprocedures and performs services requiring technical and manualskills. Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provideservices to level licensure.

High School diploma orequivalent (GED) Current RN license in the State of Texas CurrentBLS Certification ACLS Certification within first 90 days NIHSScertification within first 90 days Previous MedSurg experiencepreferred NTMC is a tobacco and drug free workplace.
