Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our perioperative team. This role is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients before and after surgical procedures. The Pre-Op/PACU RN will assess patients preoperatively, provide education, and ensure they are medically prepared for surgery. Postoperatively, the nurse will monitor patients as they recover from anesthesia, manage pain and vital signs, and ensure safe discharge or transfer.

Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Op Duties:

Perform comprehensive nursing assessments prior to surgery Obtain patient histories, review medical records, allergies, and medications Start IV lines and administer preoperative medications as ordered Provide patient and family education about the surgical process Ensure all consent forms and documentation are complete Collaborate with surgical team members and anesthesia staff

PACU Duties:

Monitor and assess patients recovering from anesthesia Manage airway, oxygenation, and pain control Detect and respond to signs of postoperative complications Provide emotional support and post-op education to patients and families Document all care provided in the medical record Discharge patients per protocol or transfer to appropriate units

Additional Responsibilities Include:

Preparing and maintaining all aspects of the perioperative environment. Cultivating a nurturing atmosphere characterized by courtesy, compassion, respect, empathy, dignity, and optimism in all interpersonal interactions. Measuring, reporting, and recording vital signs. Obtaining and documenting relevant patient information related to medical history. Verifying the accuracy of recorded and reported patient information. Communicating effectively with patients, providers, and ancillary staff to maintain patient flow. Collecting urine specimens and performing pregnancy tests as necessary. Providing patient education through written and oral communication or other means as directed by providers. Reporting, documenting, and recording relevant information regarding the patient’s condition, treatment, expectations, and progress.

Work Environment:

Fast-paced Office-based surgery center May require rotating shifts, including early mornings Ability to lift, move, and position patients and equipment Monday-Friday schedule, with no nights, weekends, or holidays Frequent standing, lifting, and movement required in the OR setting

Qualifications:
Education:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred

License:

Current RN license in FL or

MULTI STATE
Certifications:
BLS, ACLS

Experience:

Minimum 1-2 years of experience in pre-op, PACU, or critical care preferred

Skills & Competencies:

Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills Ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergencies Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Knowledge of post-anesthesia recovery and pain management Familiarity with office-based surgical procedures and workflow Proficient in electronic medical record (EMR) systems
