Travel As an Operating Room Registered Nurse(OR RN), you will play a crucial role in the surgical team,providing direct patient care before, during, and after surgicalprocedures. You will collaborate closely with surgeons,anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcareprofessionals to ensure safe and effective surgical outcomes.
KeyResponsibilities:
Preoperative Preparation:
Assess patients’medical histories and current conditions to develop individualizedpreoperative care plans. Verify surgical consent, review medications, and prepare patientsphysically and emotionally for surgery.
Intraoperative Nursing Care:
Assist in preparing the operating room(OR) environment, ensuring sterile conditions and properfunctioning of surgical equipment. Collaborate with surgical team members to position patients,monitor vital signs, and assist with anesthesia induction andmaintenance.
Surgical Assistance and Instrumentation:
Anticipate surgeons’ needsduring procedures, passing instruments, sutures, and supplies asrequired. Maintain sterile technique and adhere to aseptic practicesthroughout the surgical process.
Patient Advocacy and Safety:
Advocate for patient safety andcomfort throughout the surgical experience, addressing concerns andensuring adherence to surgical protocols. Monitor patients’ responses to surgical interventions, anticipatingpotential complications and intervening promptly as needed.
Postoperative Care and Monitoring:
Transfer patients topost-anesthesia care units (PACUs) or recovery rooms, monitoringtheir vital signs and postoperative status. Assess surgical incisions, apply dressings, and manage drainagedevices while ensuring patient comfort and pain management.
Documentation and Communication:
Maintain accurate and thoroughdocumentation of intraoperative events, patient responses, andmedications administered. Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, providingupdates on surgical progress and postoperative outcomes.
Continuing Education and Professional Development:
Stay currentwith advancements in surgical techniques, equipment, and nursingpractices through continuing education and professional developmentactivities.
