DescriptionJob SummaryResponsible for the planning and deliveryof care utilizing nursing processes, assessment, implementation andevaluation. Oversees the plan of care, utilizes effective problemsolving strategies, and applies evidence based practice. Supportsand upholds quality standards of a Magnet designated Hospital andPatient Bill of Rights. Practices under the supervision of theNursing Manager/Director and has passion for learning, providescompassionate, and family centered care for Surgical Servicespatients.
Job Specific Duties Ensures completion of surgical documentation requirements(consent, labs, H&P, patient history, etc.). Completes processaccurately as per Universal Protocol and hospital policies andprocedures. Greets family/patient and transports patient into OR. Acts asliaison to update family with procedure progress to ensure top tierpatient and family satisfaction (SEI index). Plans, implements, and documents the plan of care incollaboration with the other disciplines and services to assuresafe and efficient care. Provides nursing care that includes IV site monitoring,specimen collection, and assists medical team with specificprocedures. Follows physician’s orders, administers, and reconstitutesmedications when needed. Adheres to six rights of medicationadministration per medication administration policy. Collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team in daily careplanning, as appropriate, and fosters a Family Centered CareEnvironment. Ensures and monitors set up and maintenance of sterile field,performs all reconciliation, and counts of instruments per retainedsurgical site policy. Coordinates utilization of antibiotics per protocol andaccording the physician preference cards. Prepares all medication required for surgical field asdetermined by the procedure. Remains with the patient during emergence and extubation.
Assists Anesthesia team as needed. Transports the patient to recovery room and completes the SOARchecklist for the procedure with transition of care performed witha hand-off to the PACU RN. Ensures advanced directives, secures blood consents, documentstime-out procedures, ensures the correct site/side is marked, (whenapplicable) & admins antibiotics as per Universal Protocol. Performs reassessments as per policy and when there is a changein the plan of care, or when an intervention is performed. Accesses electronic health record (ERM) and performs chargereconciliation according to hospital policy and completes accurateand timely documentation in the patient’s electronic healthrecord. Communicates and documents critical lab results per hospitalpolicy and procedures. Communicates with patients and families to review plan of careand solicits input and communicate any patient and family concernsto physician. Promotes an “error free” working environment by consistentlyproviding high-quality safe care prompted as per the UniversalProtocols Policy and Prevention of Retained Surgical ItemsPolicy. Performs skin & structural assessment, takes measures toaccommodate patient, and ensures safe care while ensuring nomedication errors. Performs falls risk assessment & takesappropriate steps. Provides patient information and effectively completes the handoff process (SOAR document on hand off items) at and patientreassignments. Responsible for proper personal protective equipment (PPE)indication and use. Meets or exceeds unit standards in achieving a 95% CEI;completes documentation in a timely manner; accountable toregulatory and requirements of the
DNV, CMS, DOH
& otheraccrediting agencies. Accountable to optimize first case starts to prevent delay ofpatient care as per departmental goal. Promotes safety by actively practicing time-out. Documentingall implants and blood transfusion products per the SurgicalServices Policy on blood transfusions, implants and time-outprocedures.
QualificationsMinimum Job Requirements Registered Nurse RN Licensure within the State of Florida orMulti-State Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC)
- maintainactive and in good standing throughout employment American Heart Association BLS
- must maintain active and ingood standing throughout employment American Heart Association PALS
- must maintain active and ingood standing throughout employment within 2 yearsKnowledge,Skills, And Abilities BSN degree preferred or currently enrolled in BSN program(requiring proof) within 6 months of hire.
Nursing experience in a pediatric healthcare OR settingpreferred.
Career Development:
National Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN) or(CNOR) and/or certification equivalent within 5 years of hirepreferred. Possesses proficiency in computers and Electronic MedicalRecord (EMR) preferred. Able to analyze and interpret data and utilize the informationto make judgments regarding patient care. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to positively influence, hold self, and othersaccountable. Able to work effectively in collaborative environment. Ability to apply principles of evidence-based practice,analytical thinking, and service excellence in practice. Coverage for on-call assignments per departmental and Hospitalpolicy.
