Required Qualifications:
One year of recent experience as a neonatal intensive careRN Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations Current BLS (AHA/ARC) Certification Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
Preferred Qualifications:
Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing Certification (RNC-NIC) PALS (AHA/ARC) or ENPC Other certifications and licenses may be required for thisposition
Summary:
The NICU Registered Nurse provides specializedcare to critically ill and premature newborns in a neonatalintensive care unit (NICU). This role includes advanced neonatalassessments, operation of life-support equipment, andfamily-centered education and support. The RN collaborates withinterdisciplinary teams and ensures adherence to hospital andregulatory standards while delivering high-quality,patient-centered care.
Essential Work Functions:
Assesses and monitors critically ill and premature newborns,identifying changes and documenting conditions and responses Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordancewith approved neonatal nursing techniques Performs neonatal assessments, including vital signs, weightchecks, and specialized neonatal screenings Operate and manage advanced NICU equipment, such asventilators, CPAP machines, and infusion pumps, ensuring properfunctionality Assists with life-saving and diagnostic neonatal proceduresincluding umbilical line placement and intubation Educates and supports parents on neonatal care, includingfeeding techniques and developmental care Prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations andprocedures Develop and implement individualized care plans for neonates incollaboration with the multidisciplinary team Adhere to infection control measures, including hand hygiene,PPE use, and sterilization protocols, to protect vulnerableneonates Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, includingneonatologists and therapists, to optimize neonatal outcomes Perform other duties as assigned within the scope ofpractice Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection controlguidelines, and regulatory standards
Required Essential Skills:
Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonalcommunication skills The ability to read, write, & communicate in the Englishlanguage is required Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbalinstructions, and proficiency in PC skills Physical Abilities
- Remain in a stationary position, moveabout, move equipment (50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bending Interpersonal Skills
- To work effectively with a variety ofpersonnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positiveattitude and professionalism Technical/Motor Skills
- Ability to grasp, fine manipulation,pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting withprocedures and/or using department equipment. Mental Requirements
- Must be able to cope with frequentcontact with the general public, customers, and meeting deadlinesunder pressure. Must be able to work under close supervisionoccasionally as well as working without assistance from otherpersonnel.
