  • .The work dayis a straight 10 hour day with a paid working dinner.
  • -DailyActivities of the 2nd Shift Nurse, but not limited to:
  • -1) Assessand treat any sick or injured student.
  • 2) Assess and treat anysick or injured staff who become ill or injured while at work.3)Administer and assess students that receive scheduled or as neededmedications.4) Provide information and teaching for students andstaff needed for activities of daily living skills that pertain tomedical/health center.
  • 5) Attend after school/evening field tripswith the staff and students in case a medical emergency arises.
  • 6)Maintain the AEDs throughout the campus. Prepare medication boxesthat go home with students who have regular medications or whenrefills are needed.
  • 7) Notify parents/guardians of student statuschanges and necessary needs of the student.
  • 8) Admit and treatsick students and arrange transportation home, whether it be byparent/guardian or school district.
  • 9) Triage patients anddetermine what level of care they may need.
  • 10) Audit and monitorall medications (OTC & personal).
  • 11) Document all events reportedon the proper forms and charts.
  • 12) Provide necessary forms tostudents and staff as listed in the NYSED manual. 13) Maintain aclean & adequately stocked health center.
  • 14) Answer and directphone calls.
  • 15) Answer and screen any visitor who may come to theresidential entrance and notify the dorm supervisor to answer thedoor.
  • -Duties of a School Nurse
  • Responsibilities of the director of school health services canbe delegated to the school nurse if within their scope of practice.

These typically include: Informing parents/guardians, students and teachers of astudent’s health condition subject to federal and stateconfidentiality laws Guide parents, students and teachers in procedures forpreventing and correcting defects and diseases Instruct school personnel in procedures to follow in case ofaccident or illnes Survey and make necessary recommendations concerning the healthand safety aspects of school facilities and the provision of healthinformation. Immediately send home, in a safe and proper manner, any studentshowing signs of any communicable or infectious disease reportableunder Public Health Law that imposes a significant risk ofinfections to others in the school. Immediately notify the local public health agency of anydisease reportable under Public Health Law.
