Job Summary:
The Lead Nurse is a vital and supportive member of the PCSD team, working collaboratively with educators, support staff, and administration to achieve the shared goal of ensuring all students receive the education they need to succeed both today and tomorrow. This role is performed within a school environment, overseen by the Nurse Supervisor, where teamwork and dedication to student success are paramount.

Exempt Primary Function:
Demonstrates ability to lead others. Exhibits professionalism in all job-related situations and follows professional ethics in all work-related activities. Communicates responsibly with all individuals and groups. Adheres to local school procedures and regulations in a supportive manner. Seeks to improve through professional development and evaluation activities. Functions as school nurse and provides coverage when regular nurse is absent. Participates in nurse assignments for each school year.

Qualifications:
College Degree in Field of Nursing or Diploma from accredited school of nursing License Required, Valid Registered Nurse License from Georgia Board of Nursing preferred Previous pediatric, community health and/or school health nursing experience preferred Two years of supervision in the medical field preferred Current Basic Life Support Certification Current Georgia Driver’s License with current proof of insurance The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
Essential Functions:
Demonstrates the ability to lead others Exhibits professionalism in all job-related situations and follows professional ethics in all work-related activities Communicates responsibly with all individuals and groups Adheres to local school procedures and regulations in a supportive manner Seeks to improve through professional development and evaluation activities Coordinates mandated screenings Serves as a resource person to teachers and parents concerning health problems, disease process, and disabilities as they relate to learning and school Initiates referral to parents, school personnel and community health resources for intervention, remediation and follow through Provides ongoing health education with students, parents, health agencies and school staff Provides in-service education program to staff on health issues, wellness and prevention including CPR, medication administration, etc. Recommends and helps to implement modification of school programs to meet students’ health needs Plans, implements, and evaluates school health management protocols for the student with special health needs, including administration of medications, catheterizations, tube feedings under the supervision of a supervisory nurse Maintains adequate documentation and clinic records Assists in monitoring immunization records and acts as a resource regarding current immunization practices Performs routine clinical services as required including basic health assessment and first aid, and follows up in a user-friendly clinic environment Serves on related community and educational committees as deemed appropriate Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent or designee Lifting students and lifting to 40 pounds, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. Ability to assist students in emergency situations requiring a quick pace traversing stairs or hills.
