RequiredQualifications:
  • One year of recent experience as a neonatalintensive care RN
  • Valid RN license in compliance with stateregulations
  • Current BLS (AHA/ARC) Certification
  • Current NRP(Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
PreferredQualifications:
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing Certification(RNC-NIC)
  • PALS (AHA/ARC) or ENPC
  • Other certifications andlicenses may be required for this position
Summary:

The NICURegistered Nurse provides specialized care to critically ill andpremature newborns in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Thisrole includes advanced neonatal assessments, operation oflife-support equipment, and family-centered education and support.

The RN collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and ensuresadherence to hospital and regulatory standards while deliveringhigh-quality, patient-centered care.

Essential Work Functions:
  • Assesses and monitors critically ill and premature newborns,identifying changes and documenting conditions and responses
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordancewith approved neonatal nursing techniques
  • Performs neonatalassessments, including vital signs, weight checks, and specializedneonatal screenings
  • Operate and manage advanced NICU equipment,such as ventilators, CPAP machines, and infusion pumps, ensuringproper functionality
  • Assists with life-saving and diagnosticneonatal procedures including umbilical line placement andintubation
  • Educates and supports parents on neonatal care,including feeding techniques and developmental care
  • Prepareequipment and assist physicians during examinations and procedures
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans for neonates incollaboration with the multidisciplinary team
  • Adhere to infectioncontrol measures, including hand hygiene, PPE use, andsterilization protocols, to protect vulnerable neonates
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including neonatologistsand therapists, to optimize neonatal outcomes
  • Perform otherduties as assigned within the scope of practice
  • Adhere tohospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, andregulatory standards
Required Essential Skills:
  • Criticalthinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communicationskills
  • The ability to read, write, & communicate in the Englishlanguage is required
  • Ability to read/comprehend writteninstructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PCskills
  • Physical Abilities
  • Remain in a stationary position, moveabout, move equipment (50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bending
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • To work effectively with a variety ofpersonnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positiveattitude and professionalism
  • Technical/Motor Skills
  • Ability tograsp, fine manipulation, pushing/pulling and able to move aboutwhen assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment.
  • Mental Requirements
  • Must be able to cope with frequent contactwith the general public, customers, and meeting deadlines underpressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionallyas well as working without assistance from other personnel. Must beable to contend with irregular activity schedules occasionally andcontinuous concentration to detail
