POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse, with appropriate competency completions, is responsible for the direct and indirect nursing care of all patients ranging in age from 18 years to geriatric experiencing medically complex conditions, general medical-surgical conditions, with rehabilitation and/or wound care needs. The RN is also responsible for the overall direction and supervision of all patient care during his/her shift. Demonstrates the knowledge and skill to carry out the nursing process when providing patient care. Satisfies the established standards of the nursing practice. Supervises and delegates patient care tasks to LVN/LPN or CNA and other patient care team members. Promotes teamwork with physicians and personnel of other departments. As appropriate, the registered nurse takes into consideration the patients’ age in the performance of any task.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to project a professional Image. Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements and hospital policies and procedures. Working knowledge and ability to apply professional standards of practice in job situations. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Working knowledge of personal computer and software applications used in job functions (Order entry, data input etc.) Persons who have been found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting, or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in this position. Freedom from illegal use of drugs. A minimum of two (2) years experience in an ICU environment is preferred for HOU/ICU RNs. Freedom from use of and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

EDUCATION

AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing. Two or more years of acute care experience or rehabilitation as a registered nurse is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

A Registered Nurse who is currently licensed to practice, in good standing, by the state of employment. Must maintain current provider CPR certification throughout employment. ACLS certification required within 1 year of employment or as available courses allow (Applies to full-time staff RN, Charge Nurses, ICU and PRN who routinely charge and/or work ICU.) CCRN certification preferred for ICU/HOU RNs. English is the primary language of the facility. Must be able to express self adequately in written and oral communication and to communicate effectively in an interdisciplinary care setting with patients, family, and staff members. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, patient or family, physicians and public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Also the ability to draw and interpret various graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral and/or diagram form. Ability to define and solve problems, collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in statistical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
