OVERVIEW OF POSITION
To strengthen the educational process through improvement of the health status of children and youth by clinical and classroom methods
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Visits each school assigned at least once every week
2. Encourages and assists with in-service health education programs for staff
3. Serves as health resource person in the individual school program
4. Recommends to the health coordinator modifications in the educational program for students
5. Assesses and evaluates the total health and development status of student health needs and problems
6. Assesses individual health and behavior patterns of students by observation, referral by school or medical personnel, and past history
7. Conducts nurse/teacher(s) and nurse/parent(s) conferences as indicated
8. Makes home visits when necessary
9. Assists in screening programs for hearing, vision, and scoliosis
10. Follows up on reported health concerns of all students
11. Initiates necessary referral to appropriate persons and/or agencies
12. Counsels with individuals or groups concerning personal hygiene, etc.
13. Maintains complete records on all school nurse activities
14. Aids in implementing the control of diseases in the school
15. Supervises compliance by students and parents with immunization and communicable disease laws, regulations, and policies of the state and school district
16. Implements and enforces communicable disease policies by classroom inspection, exclusion, readmission, and reporting to health coordinator if necessary
17. Assures that the health program is an integral part of the community, health professions, and the school
18. Promotes effective communication between the community health professions
19. Works with community agencies for effective use of their resources and facilities
20. Meets the criteria for a Professional Growth Plan following the guidelines in the Bossier Parish Program of Professional Personnel Evaluation
21. Assumes additional responsibilities as the School Nurse Coordinator may assign to include but not limited to extra-curricular activities that relate to students interests and opportunities. Any work to be performed outside of an employee’s job duties and responsibilities shall require the employee to (1) submit a written description of the services to be performed and the estimated time to complete the task, which shall be submitted to the employee’s immediate supervisor prior to commencing such services, (2) obtain the prior written approval of the employee’s immediate supervisor, and (3) obtain supplemental, written authority from the employee’s immediate supervisor before exceeding the initial estimated time for performing such services. Such employee shall submit a completed form reflecting the services actually provided and the time spent for each item, rounded to the nearest one-tenth of an hour, within seven (7) calendar days of performing such services.
