PayInformation $1,428 per week About The Position A Registered Nurse(RN) in Obstetrics provides specialized care to women duringpregnancy, labor, childbirth, and the postpartum period. This roleinvolves monitoring maternal and fetal health, assisting with laborand delivery, managing complications, and providing patienteducation and support. The RN in Obstetrics works closely withobstetricians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals toensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of both the mother andthe newborn during the perinatal period. nn

Key Responsibilities:

Prenatal Care and Assessment :

n n Performcomprehensive assessments of pregnant patients, including medicalhistory, vital signs, and fetal development.n Monitor the physicaland emotional well-being of pregnant patients, including any signsof complications like preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, or fetalgrowth concerns.n Provide education to expectant mothers onprenatal care, nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle modifications topromote a healthy pregnancy.n Administer prescribed medicationsand treatments, including prenatal vitamins, blood pressuremedication, or other doctor-ordered interventions.n nn n

Laborand Delivery Care :

n n Monitor the progress of labor, includingassessing uterine contractions, fetal heart rate, and maternalvital signs.n Administer pain management options such asepidurals, IV analgesics, or other medications in collaborationwith the healthcare team.n Assist in delivery by providing supportduring vaginal or cesarean births, including maintaining a sterileenvironment, preparing equipment, and assisting the healthcareprovider.n Assist with procedures related to delivery, such asepisiotomy, fetal monitoring, or emergency interventions asrequired.n nn n

Fetal Monitoring and Assessment :

n nContinuously monitor fetal heart rate and contractions during laborusing electronic fetal monitoring equipment.n Assess the fetalwell-being, identify signs of fetal distress, and report abnormalfindings to the obstetrician or midwife.n Perform routineassessments to ensure healthy fetal development, and intervene inthe case of complications, such as fetal distress, umbilical cordprolapse, or meconium staining.n nn n

Postpartum Care :

n nProvide immediate postpartum care for mothers and newborns,including monitoring vital signs, uterine contraction, andbleeding.n Assess and manage potential postpartum complicationssuch as hemorrhage, infection, or blood pressure issues.n Assistwith breastfeeding education and support for new mothers, providingguidance on latch techniques and proper breast care.n Offeremotional and psychological support to mothers during thepostpartum period, addressing issues such as baby blues, postpartumdepression, or recovery from a cesarean section.n nn n

PatientEducation and Counseling :

n n Educate patients and theirfamilies about pregnancy, childbirth, and newborn care, includingtopics like breastfeeding, infant care basics, and familyplanning.n Provide information on birth control options, includinghow to prevent and manage pregnancy-related complications.n Teachmothers about the importance of follow-up care and warning signs ofcomplications during the postpartum period.n nn n Collaborationwith the

n n Work collaboratively withobstetricians, midwives, pediatricians, and other members of thehealthcare team to provide comprehensive care for patients.nParticipate in interdisciplinary rounds and care planning to ensurethat both maternal and newborn care needs are addressed.nCommunicate effectively with team members about any changes inpatient status or concerns that require attention.n nn n

Infection Control and Safety :

n n Follow strict infectioncontrol procedures, especially during labor, delivery, andpost-delivery care, to prevent infections such as postpartumuterine infections or neonatal sepsis.n Ensure the safeadministration of medications and treatments, adhering to protocolsfor administering pain relief or anesthesia during labor.n Monitorfor signs of complications such as hemorrhage, infections, orthromboembolic events (e.g., deep vein thrombosis) and interveneappropriately.n nn n

Documentation and Record-Keeping :
