Essential Functions:

The Physician provides medical care and treatment to patients. Provides consultation and medical supervision to the clinical staff. Performs routine examinations, diagnoses and provides treatment for illnesses and injuries to promote the patients’ overall well-being, and provides immunizations according to medical or school guidelines. Hematology/Oncology Hospitalist will work with residents and advanced practice providers to help manage hospitalized patients with malignancies and blood disorders. Hematology/Oncology Hospitalist will also perform procedures in keeping with the subspecialty of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and will be expected to manage patients without the supervision of attending physicians. Specific assignments will vary based on the needs of the practice. The in-patient census can be highly variable as can the complexity of the patients and responsibilities will vary from week to week. As an example, you may be asked to direct the management of patients admitted for chemotherapy. As another example, you may be asked to care for in-patients receiving long-term antibiotics. Hematology/Oncology Hospitalist will be responsible for obtaining histories and physical exams, reviewing laboratory and radiology results, placing orders, providing appropriate documentation (admission H&Ps, progress notes, discharge summaries) and submitting physician charges (in your name). Hematology/Oncology Hospitalist may be asked to perform scheduled procedures for both in- and out-patients. If time allows, Hematology/Oncology Hospitalist may supervise and instruct fellows performing procedures or see a limited number of clinic patients when an attending physician is away at a meeting or on vacation. Depending on the available number of residents and APPs, there will be some on-site weekend coverage required and there will be some days on Hematology/Oncology Hospitalist will work until 7:00 PM to provide sign-out to the overnight team. It is expected that the Hematology/Oncology Hospitalist will work 40-50 hours per week depending on weekend call, the in-patient census, and the complexity of hospitalized patients.

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

Completed residency training. ​

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

Doctoral Degree in Medicine or Osteopathy.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

American Heart Association, Basic Life Support-HCP, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification. Medical Physician Licensure through the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Medical skills. Computer software skills. ICD-10 and CPT-4, working knowledge.
