Infection Control Nurse Richardson Medical Center 254 Highway 3048, Rayville, LA 71269 Job Overview An Infection Control Nurse (ICN) is a healthcare professional focused on preventing and managing healthcare-associated infections. They develop and implement infection control protocols, monitor compliance, and educate staff and patients on infection prevention. Their work is crucial in maintaining a safe healthcare environment for both patients and staff.
Responsibilities Developing and Implementing Policies:
ICNs create and update infection control policies and procedures based on current evidence-based practices and guidelines. In essence, an Infection Control Nurse is a vital member of the healthcare team, working to minimize the risk of infections and ensure a safe environment for everyone
Surveillance and Monitoring:
They monitor infection rates, identify trends, and investigate potential outbreaks to implement timely interventions.
Education and Training:
ICNs educate healthcare staff, patients, and sometimes the public on infection control practices, such as hand hygiene, isolation procedures, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Collaboration:
They work closely with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, epidemiologists, and public health officials, to ensure a coordinated approach to infection prevention.
