Job Description
NATURE OF DUTIES
A Registered Nurse (RN) in an ambulatory cath lab provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures in an outpatient setting. Responsibilities include patient assessment, procedural preparation, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, assisting physicians during procedures, and providing post-procedure care and education. The RN ensures patient safety and comfort while adhering to clinical protocols, maintaining sterile environments, and coordinating care across the healthcare team.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
: Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized treatment plans aligned with cardiovascular procedures. Engage patients and their families in care planning and establish clear discharge goals. Identify healthcare needs, establish nursing diagnoses, set priorities, and document nursing care in accordance with professional standards. Collaborate closely with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to manage and evaluate patient care and treatment outcomes. Provide patient and family education from admission to discharge using effective communication and appropriate resources. Prepare patients for diagnostic or surgical procedures and implement holistic, therapeutic interventions. Demonstrate effective communication across all age groups and patient populations served. Maintain competency in current standards of practice, including medication administration and interpretation of diagnostic data. Accurately document all care and procedures in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and other required documentation tools. Work as an integral team member in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while adhering to CIS policies, procedures, and Standards of Behavior. Assist physicians and technologists in the performance of diagnostic and interventional lab procedures. Maintain awareness and adherence to radiation safety protocols for both patients and staff. Use sterile techniques in all aspects of procedure prep, assistance, and medication administration. Participate in pre- and post-procedure setup and cleanup of the Ambulatory Surgery Center. Ensure all patient documentation is accurate, timely, and aligned with the designated medical record system.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION
Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing. Current licensure the
Louisiana State Board of Registered Nurses Advance Cardiac Life Support Certification Basic Life Support Certification Effective Communication Skills Desired:
Advanced certification in field of Cardiology/Cardiovascular nursing Two years critical care experience or 2 years Cath Lab experience
