Minimum Qualifications:

MA DESE License School Nurse (All Levels)MA Board of Registration License as a Registered NurseKnowledge and competency in the administration of school health programs and servicesKnowledge of state and federal regulations and laws related to school health servicesUnderstanding of connections among the various school disciplinesKnowledge of best practices, materials, equipment, and techniques of nursingUnderstanding of health services in relation to the educational needs of studentsUnderstanding of the 504 processOrganizational skills: Proficiency with the technology used in school-based health programs and student information systems or ability and willingness to learn programsStrong oral and written communication skillsResponsibilities include: Administering school-based health care services to students Communicating effectively with families and outside health providers to ensure student health needs are being metManaging student health records in compliance with state and federal record lawsMaintaining current on matters involving school-based health service and programs as well as updates in public health Providing staff leadership and training on health issues for mandated health information (i.e. Epipen administration, Bloodborne Pathogens,etc.)Demonstrating professional growth and self-improvementPreparing all local, state, and federal reports on health/medical issuesCollaborating with public and private agencies, organizations, and professional personnel in securing and providing school health services for studentsProviding consultation and collaborating with administrators, school physician, and others to ensure a safe and healthy school environmentParticipating in student assistance team, IEP and 504 meetings as neededCommunicating necessary medical information and plans to staffConducting necessary school screeningsMonitoring head injury reports and concussion protocols (including IMPACT testing administration and results)Compiling and analyzing health services data Ensuring all students have up to date immunizations and any other required health updatesFacilitating efforts to get the medically necessary paperwork from familiesEnsuring that all newly enrolled students meet MDPH requirements for school admissionAdditional duties and relevant responsibilities as assigned
