Qualifications
Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse License
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (Master’s degree preferred)
CPR / AED
certified by AHA or ARC
DESE School Nurse License eligible
Experience in public health nursing, community health nursing, school health nursing, or pediatric nursing preferred
Responsibilities
Provides assessment, first aid, and health care for students and staff, in case of injury, acute illness, and emergencies
Provides medically prescribed treatment to students, including prescription medication administration (per LPS policy and Massachusetts state regulations) as needed
Communicate with families regarding health concerns, requiring follow-up, monitoring, evaluation, and/or treatment
Communicate with families and staff regarding
COVID-19
protocols and guidelines
Administers
COVID-19
testing and reports results into the state database
Work with families, students, and faculty to implement Individual Health Care/504 plans for students with various medical needs
Serve as a resource to the school staff members, consulting with other school professionals such as food service personnel, physical education teachers, coaches, and counselors
Collaborate with school staff members including, but not limited to, administrators, office staff, teachers, school mental health counselors, school psychologist, and school physician
Provide preventative health services to facilitate the students’ optimal physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development
Maintain comprehensive school health records, including daily visit entries, accident reports, and individual health visits when providing health care
Follows LPS healthcare policies/procedures regarding obtaining medication orders from licensed prescribers with parental consent at the beginning of each school year
Organize and carry out DPH mandated screenings and make appropriate referrals
Provide health and safety training during staff orientation: protocol for sending students to nurse, blood-borne pathogens/standard precautions, what to do in a medical emergency
Provide EpiPen administration and field trip training to delegated staff
