Required Qualifications:

One year’s recentexperience as a postpartum RN? Valid RN license in compliance withstate regulations Current BLS (AHA/ARC)

Certification NRPCertification Preferred Qualifications:

ACLS (AHA/ARC)Certification Other certifications and licenses may be required forthis position

Summary:

The Postpartum Registered Nurse providesspecialized, family-centered care to mothers and newborns in thepostpartum unit. This role involves assessing maternal and newbornhealth, implementing care plans, supports breastfeeding andeducating families on postpartum and newborn care. The PostpartumRN collaborates with healthcare teams to ensure optimal outcomesand demonstrates advanced clinical skills, critical thinking, and acommitment to patient safety and professional ethics.

EssentialWork Functions:

Explains postpartum and newborn care procedures tomothers and families to gain cooperation, understanding, andalleviate apprehension Administers prescribed medications andtreatments to mothers and newborns safely and accurately, followingestablished protocols Assess and monitor the health of postpartummothers and newborns, identifying changes, addressingcomplications, and recording significant conditions and reactionsAssists with and educates on breastfeeding, addressing challengesto ensure successful feeding practices Performs newbornassessments, including vital signs, weight checks, and requiredscreening tests Responds to life-saving situations usingevidence-based protocols and best practices Collaborate withinterdisciplinary teams Educates new parents on infant care,maternal recovery, and postpartum health, including safe sleeppractices and early signs of complications Prepares equipment andaids physicians during examinations and any necessary postpartum orneonatal procedures Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needsof mothers and newborns, ensuring a safe, supportive environmentfor bonding Documents all relevant history and physical assessmentsfor assigned patients accurately in medical records Performs otherduties as assignment within the scope of the practice

RequiredEssential Skills:

Critical thinking, service excellence and goodinterpersonal communication skills The ability to read, write, &communicate in the English language is required Ability toread/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions,and proficiency in PC skills Physical Abilities

  • Remain in astationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs),pushing, pulling, bending Interpersonal Skills
  • To workeffectively with a variety of personnel (professional andancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalismTechnical/Motor Skills
  • Ability to grasp, fine manipulation,pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting withprocedures and/or using department equipment. Mental Requirements
  • Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public,customers, and meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able towork under close supervision occasionally as well as workingwithout assistance from other personnel.
