Job Description

Elementary School Nurse 2.7 2.7 out of 5 stars 19 Stage Rd, Westhampton, MA 01027 he school nurse will develop, implement, and manage a school health program for all Westhampton Elementary School students and staff. Responsibilities include program management and nursing services.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develops and implements an individualized health care plan for students with special health needs
  • Systematically and continuously collects information about the health and developmental status of the student, his/her family, and significant others, including health and social histories, screening results, physical assessment, emotional status, performance level, and health goals; makes home visits as needed and as negotiated with the principal.
  • Provides medically prescribed interventions, including medication administration (based on state regulations), and cares for ill children on a daily basis.
  • Accommodates students health needs appropriately and efficiently and assesses students readiness to return to class when able. Provides and refers students for counseling and crisis intervention when required; responds to child neglect or abuse per district protocol and state law in collaboration with the principal
  • Provides first aid to injured children and staff; provides everyday care of acutely ill children; manages children with contagious diseases
  • Administers CPR when necessary.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies
  • Creates and maintains a safe physical and emotional environment for all students and staff in the nurses office
  • With parental consent when indicated, shares information with other team members about children with special health care problems that affect their safety, learning, and growth and attends Special Education Team and 504 meetings when appropriate
  • Acts as a resource in health education to school personnel, students, and families.
  • Perform any other task/duty required or requested related to maintaining services and student records in compliance with Federal and state law, regulation, and policy.
