TravelNurseSource is working with Magnet Medical to find aqualified Labor/Delivery RN in Dover, New Hampshire, 03820! PayInformation $2,305 per week About The Position The Registered Nurse(RN) in Labor and Delivery (L&D) is responsible for providingcomprehensive care to women during labor, delivery, and theimmediate postpartum period. The RN in this specialty is skilled inmanaging both routine and high-risk pregnancies, monitoring fetaland maternal well-being, and assisting with deliveries. The L&Dnurse collaborates with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists,and other healthcare professionals to provide safe, compassionate,and effective care to both mothers and newborns.

KeyResponsibilities:
Pre-Labor and Admission Assessment:

Assess andmonitor the health of pregnant women at various stages of labor,including gathering health histories, vital signs, and physicalassessments. Perform non-stress tests (NSTs), monitor fetal hearttones, and evaluate uterine activity for signs of laborprogression. Educate patients on labor and delivery processes, painmanagement options, and what to expect during childbirth.

LaborSupport and Monitoring:

Monitor the progress of labor throughregular assessment of contraction patterns, cervical dilation,fetal heart rate, and maternal vital signs. Administer medications,including epidurals, Pitocin, and pain relief options, asprescribed, and monitor their effects. Provide continuous emotionalsupport and pain management throughout the labor process, usingcomfort measures, including positioning, breathing techniques, andoffering encouragement. Assist with amniotomy, if necessary, andother procedures as directed by the healthcare team. Assisting with

Delivery:

Assist obstetricians or midwives during vaginaldeliveries, including providing instrumentation assistance,suctioning, and other necessary actions during the birth.

Participate in cesarean section procedures by ensuring the sterilefield, assisting with the delivery process, and providing immediatenewborn care after birth. Perform neonatal resuscitation andinitial assessment of the newborn’s health immediately afterdelivery.

Postpartum Care:

Monitor the health and recovery of boththe mother and the newborn in the immediate postpartum period,including assessing vital signs, bleeding, and uterine tone. Assistwith breastfeeding support, including teaching proper latchtechniques, positioning, and addressing any concerns related toinfant care. Provide education on postpartum recovery, self-care,and newborn care, such as diapering, bathing, and recognizing signsof illness.

Documentation and Reporting:

Document all assessments,interventions, medications, and patient progress accurately in theelectronic health record (EHR) to maintain compliance with hospitalpolicies and legal standards. Maintain accurate and timely recordsof labor and delivery processes, including patient and fetalmonitoring results.

Collaboration and Communication:

Work closelywith obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and otherhealthcare team members to plan and implement individualized carefor each patient. Communicate clearly with patients and familiesabout the progress of labor, potential complications, and availableoptions, ensuring that informed consent is obtained for procedureswhen necessary.

Infection Control and Safety:

Follow infectioncontrol procedures to maintain a safe and sterile environment forlabor, delivery, and postpartum care. Ensure that all equipmentused during labor and delivery is properly sterilized andfunctioning, including fetal monitoring devices, IV pumps, anddelivery instruments.

Emergency and High-Risk Situations:

Recognizesigns of complications, such as fetal distress, preeclampsia, andhemorrhage, and initiate appropriate interventions or escalate careas needed. Respond to obstetric emergencies, such as shoulderdystocia, uterine rupture, and neonatal resuscitation, utilizingappropriate protocols and teamwork. Administer medications andinterventions for high-risk pregnancies, including managingcomplications like hypertension, gestational diabetes, orinfections.

Patient Education and Advocacy:

Provide education andsupport to patients and families regarding labor, delivery options,newborn care, and postpartum recovery.
