QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts. Hold a minimum of a Masters degree in nursing from a college or university program accredited by the National League for Nursing. Maintain certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and First aid from a recognized provider, i.e. American Heart Association. Must be computer literate. Experience working with students in a school setting with academic, behavioral and/or emotional challenges, learning or developmental disabilities or autism preferred. Must be able and willing to physically restrain and/or lift students.
PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS
Experience supervising nurses in school or hospital settings relevant to SSECs student populations. DESE SchoolNursing Licensure.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible for developing, implementing and managing the Collaborative school health program. Responsible for program management; nursing services; collaboration; health education; community health and emergency planning and professional practice. As a Registered Nurse through the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN), the School Nurse Leader must adhere to the Nurse Practice Act, pertinent regulations governing nursing practice and standards of care established by the professional organization. The Coordinator of Nursing Services is responsible for leading the collaborative health care team in addressing physical, social and emotional needs of individuals or groups of students.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Consult with school physician, Executive Director and Program Directors/Coordinators to review and revise policies, protocols and specific programs for comprehensive school health education and services. 2.Ensure orientation, training, supervision and evaluation as needed to comply with the Nurse Practice Act and other relevant statutes and regulations procedures and specific programs for comprehensive school health education and services. 3.Organize and implement state-mandated. 4.Promote positive safety practices both within and outside of school buildings, and ensures that the school has an emergency plan which is communicated to personnel and students. 5.Prepare reports for Collaborative administration or DPH when required. 6.Implement communicable disease prevention and infection control based on current guidelines for universal precautions, prevention of blood borne pathogens exposure and hazardous medical waste disposal; coordinate activities with local board of health. 7. Prepare annual standing orders for school physician for OTC medication administration at Collaborative sites. 8.Responsible for establishing systems to evaluate competence of all nursing and UAP staff. 9. Securing of and scheduling coverage for all sites when nurse absences occur.10. Providing nursing coverage in individual programs as needed when substitutes are not available. 11.Responsible for all medical nursing supply orders with appropriate administrative approval.12.Ensure standards of practice are established and maintained.13.The School Nurse Leader has total management of the Collaborative medication administration and delegation program.14.Attend conferences and educational seminars with approval from the Executive Director. 15.Other tasks as related to this position as assigned by the Executive Director.
Mandatory participation in all of the following SSEC sponsored trainings to include but not limited to: 1.Successful completion of SSEC approved physical management trainings, full and/or re-certification annually as appropriate..2.Maintain active CPR/First Aid certification.3.Successful completion of all SSEC approved threat assessment training.
