POSITION SUMMARY
Is responsible and accountable in the delivery of direct and indirect patient care. Promotes and maintains adaptive responses in individuals and groups with consideration of the integrated nature of person, individual value systems, and cultural differences. Utilizes the Roy Adaptation Model as the organizing framework for practice. Demonstrates a commitment to the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Nursing Mission and Philosophy through practice and behaviors. Recognizes that acquisition and application of further knowledge and skill beyond basic competency will contribute to greater expertise within chosen areas of nursing practice. Clinical advancement opportunities exist within the Medical Center. All nurses are expected to competently practice as RN I following orientation; interested individuals may elect to exceed basic competency by developing greater expertise and participating in professional endeavors within the Medical Center. These individuals may be recognized and promoted through the clinical advancement program. Performance and practice criteria are located in the position appraisals. The RN must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served in his/her department. The individual must acquire and/or demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. He/she must be able to provide care with consideration of developmental status. Qualifications
EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CONDUCT
Possess or eligible to obtain licensure as a RN in the state of Idaho. Some nursing positions may also require Washington licensure, i.e., Hospice. Proof of licensure must be provided prior to orientation to practice area. Will be expected to adhere to practice limitations as defined by the Idaho Board of Nursing and St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
The RN reports to the department director. Workload is based upon patient needs and treatment/intervention activities designed to meet those needs. The care of patients occurs within a system where the interdependent departments of the Medical Center contributes to and responds to the workload.
DEPARTMENT RELATIONSHIPS
The responsibility and accountability for the delivery of nursing care resides with the RN. Auxiliary team members, LPNs, and individuals in other clinical roles contribute to and support the delivery of patient care with direction and supervision of the RN.
Interacts directly and indirectly with patients and families, medical staff, and other members of the health care team. RN participates in individual and group teaching situations and regularly interacts with other department personnel to coordinate the delivery of patient care. Effective interpersonal skills are necessary; positive interactions between nurse-patient-family-team members are essential for the development to therapeutic relationships and paramount for establishing and maintaining high levels of patient satisfaction.
Must thoroughly integrate philosophy of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center and Patient Care Services division into role. Guest relations require considerate attention to patients, other employees, public, physicians, and other members of the health care team. A primary objective of the position is to maintain or create an environment conducive to development, maintenance, or enhancement of adaptive responses.
Position is essential for functioning of department and for provision of nursing care at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Position requires ability to make decisions and judgments based on knowledge and experience. Requires cognitive ability to interpret, analyze, and integrate data to assess, plan, and prescribe care and to evaluate patient responses and outcomes.
