R6 is a dynamic 24-bed neurosurgical / trauma unit with an embedded 9-bed neuro-focused Intermediate Care Unit (IMC). Bean 2 is a fast-paced 12-bed Total Joint Center. This position offers the

an opportunity to care for a diverse patient population in a supportive environment as an integral member of a collaborative team of highly trained staff.
The R6 patient population includes adults and older adolescents with neurological and orthopedic conditions including closed head injuries, strokes, brain tumors, seizure disorders, multi-traumas, and conditions requiring neurosurgical intervention. RNs providing care in the R6 IMC demonstrate astute assessment and critical thinking skills, as patients in IMC often have multi-system issues that require telemetry monitoring, intra-cranial pressure monitoring, medication drips, frequent intervention, or other higher acuity care needs.
The Bean 2 patient population consists of adults who have undergone joint replacement surgeries. This unit serves as the Joint Center for our nationally recognized and Joint Commission accredited joint replacement program. The RN on Bean 2 coordinates important milestones of care for each patient’s visit to facilitate a timely and safe discharge. This unit sees a high turnover of patients and consistently receives exceptional patient satisfaction scores.

This is a full time, night shift opportunity consisting of 3, 12 hour shifts per week.
Position Summary

In accordance with national standards of nursing practice and within the guidelines and policies and procedures of both Maine Medical Center and the Maine State Board of Nursing, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, documentation, and evaluation of the effects of nursing care. Care delivery and coordination of patient and family care begins with the initial contact with the health care system and may continue across the continuum. Services may be provided on an inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and/or community basis.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Education:

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred.

License/Certifications:

Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Maine.

Experience:

As this is an entry-level position, experience as an RN is not required.
Basic knowledge of the research base, theory, practices, principles, and processes of professional nursing. Patient care experience preferred. IMC experience strongly preferred.
Interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and health care team members.
Analytical ability sufficient to identify changes in patients’ conditions and to initiate appropriate action.
All new graduate RNs (less than 6 months of RN experience) hired into regular status positions are automatically enrolled in our 12-month Nurse Residency Program in conjunction with their unit based employment.
