POSITION SUMMARY
Utilizing the nursingprocess, provides high quality direct and indirect patientcenteredcare. Coordinates patient care by working collaboratively with theinterdisciplinary team, patients and families. Communicates, asappropriate, the patients clinical condition, responding quicklyand accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and developmentover the life span and the skills necessary to provideage-appropriate care to the patient population served. Promotes theprofession of nursing and professional practice through collegialsupport and interactions. Reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
Must be a graduate of an accredited schoolof Nursing and have and maintain a current Registered Nurse licensein the State of Connecticut. Must provide copy of diploma ortranscript upon hire. Must have certification in BLS and NRP uponhire or receive all certifications within a year after hire dateand maintain clinical competency during employment with ECHN inthis role.
EXPERIENCE
Previous NICU experience required.
COMPETENCIES
Must be able to communicate effectively in English,both verbally and in writing and possess basic computer skills.

Evaluates overall plan daily for effectiveness. Involves thepatient and family in the formulation of goals. Follows the five(5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medicationerrors. Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correctadministration based on age of the patient and their clinicalcondition. Performs all aspects of patient care which includesLevel II Newborn Intensive care, Well Newborn care and Postpartum,in an environment that optimizes patient safety and promotespositive patient outcomes. Documents the nursing process andresponses to care in a timely manner utilizing the appropriatetools. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized andfunction under stressful situations. Utilizes critical thinkingskills and sound judgment in priority setting and delegation.
Formulates and implements a teaching plan for patients and familiesbased upon identified learning needs. Evaluates effectiveness oflearning. Demonstrates autonomous practice, consistent withevidence-based standards. Pursues personal and professional growthand development. Serves as a professional role model and mentor.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and developmentfor neonates of all gestational ages and for women over thelifespan. Possesses the skills necessary to provide age-appropriatecare to patients served. Able to interpret data about the patientstatus in order to identify each patients age-specific needs andprovide care needed by the patient group. Provides an accurate andpertinent report of the patients condition for safe transfer ofcare. Monitors the hemodynamic status of the neonate, correctlyinterpreting and responding to results, and communicating criticalinformation to the provider in a timely manner. Demonstratesknowledge and clinical competence with invasive equipment used inthe care of the critical newborn. Provides appropriatedevelopmental care to sick and premature newborns. Performspopulation-specific comprehensive assessments and re-assessments ofthe maternal and newborns condition and care needs including thepsychosocial, physical, educational, cultural, and spiritualaspects.
