The Registered Nurse in the ICU provides direct andindirect patient care. He/she applies the nursing process to planand implement the care of patients, including patient and familyeducation and continuum of care planning. The Registered Nurse mustpossess good communication skills and must be able to effectivelycommunicate with physicians, peers, patients and families. He/Sheworks collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team toensure quality care is delivered.

ICU DirectorEssential Functions Providing nursing care appropriate to thecondition and needs of the patient. Consulting and collaborating with physicians and other healthcareprofessionals to provide care to patients. Establishing, reviewing, revising and following the patient plan ofcare. Administering medications and treatments within the scope ofpractice for a Registered Nurse. Recording patient care activities including assessment,reassessment, and ongoing treatment notes within the patient’smedical records. Using a variety of computer systems Operating medical equipment used in the care of the patient. Providing patient and family education related to treatment,diagnosis, medications, discharge and self-care.
